The Ladies Love Ivey

Phil Ivey opened for 50,000 under the gun and received calls from Bill Perkins in the cutoff and Scott Seiver in the small blind. Mike Watson then moved all in from the big blind for right around 260,000. Ivey responded by four-betting, which inspired both Perkins and Seiver to fold.

Showdown
Ivey: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}
Watson: {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}

The {4-Spades}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs} was no help for Watson, and neither was the {K-Spades} turn. Watson needed either a queen or ace on the river to keep his $100K title hopes alive, but it was not in the cards as the {3-Hearts} blanked. With that, Ivey chipped up to over a million while Watson exited the tournament floor.

Negreanu No More

Daniel Negreanu (Day 1) - Eliminated
Daniel Negreanu (Day 1) - Eliminated

Daniel Negreanu opened to 42,000 from the cutoff, Philipp Gruissem defended his big blind, and the dealer fanned {2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}. Gruissem checked, Negreanu fired 50,000, and Gruissem check-raised to 135,000. Negreanu moved all in for 450,000, and Gruissem called.

"Uh oh," Negreanu uttered.

Negreanu: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Gruissem: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}

Negreanu was pleasantly surprised that he wasn't crushed, but he didn't connect with the turn ({10-Spades}), or the river ({4-Hearts}). Kid Poker hit the rail, while Gruissem is up to one million chips.

Here Comes Jensen

Not long ago, Greg Jensen was nursing a short stack. Now, the investment banker has made a charge and is up above the chip average.

It happened when Daniel Negreanu opened for 42,000 under the gun, Vladimir Troyanovsky three-bet to 93,000 from the cutoff, and Jensen four-bet all in to 343,000 from the small blind. Negreanu got out of the way and Troyanovsky made the call.

Showdown
Troyanovsky: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}
Jensen: {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}

Jensen was dominated, but lucky for the amateur the {4-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop delivered him salvation. Neither the {9-Diamonds} turn nor {3-Hearts} river helped Troyanovsky, and he watched a good portion of his chips sent across the table.

A short time later, the same two players saw a flop of {9-Spades}{A-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and Jensen check-called a bet of 45,000 from Troyanovsky. Jensen then check-called another bet, this time 129,000, on the {2-Diamonds} turn, and then both players checked the {9-Diamonds} river. Jensen tabled {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for rivered trips, and Troyanovsky simply mucked.

Ivey Gets Lucky To Keep $100K Hopes Alive

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

David "Doc" Sands opened for 45,000 under the gun and cleared the field all the way around to the legendary Phil Ivey, who moved all in from the big blind for 352,000. Sands snap-called and Ivey discovered the bad news.

Showdown
Ivey: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Sands: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

Ivey was in bad shape with his best chance of winning beings an ace. There was none to be found on the {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop, but there was one on the turn as the {A-Diamonds} spiked. Per usual, Ivey showed no emotion as the dealer burned and out out the {J-Hearts} on the river. With that, Ivey doubled to near the chip average.

OH, BABY!

Daniel Negreanu binks two queens
Daniel Negreanu binks two queens

Before the limits changed, Vladimir Troyanovsky opened in middle position and Daniel Negreanu three-bet jammed from the blinds. Troyanovsky snapped it off.

Troyanovsky: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Negreanu: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

"Well this isn't fair," Negreanu lamented.

The flop: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

"OH, BABY!" Negreanu exclaimed, jumping out of his chair. "I haven't done that in so long!"

"Good timing," Jason Mercier joked.

The turn and river came {j-Hearts}, {j-Spades}, and Negreanu doubled to 600,000 chips.

Troyanovsky dropped down to 765,000.
