Welcome back to the Peppermill Resort Hotel and the 2016 Run It Up Reno festival hosted by Jason Somerville for Event 5: $235 Thursday Thrilla - Black Chip Bounty!
"'Cause this is thriller, thriller night. And no one's gonna save you from the beast about to strike"
Today sees a return to a more standard poker tournament with the Thursday Thrilla taking center stage on the schedule. Each player will have a $100 bounty on their head, and if you are able to eliminate someone you will receive a $100 on top of whatever you may cash for.
Last year saw a slightly cheaper version of the event run, and it would be Robert Fein capturing the title for $2,505 while the likes of Alex Huot, Kevin O'Donnell, Brent Harrington, and Alex Lavinthal all captured their own piece of the $19,000 prizepool.
Action is set to kick off at 2:00 p.m. PDT with PokerNews providing continuous live updates until the Thursday Thrilla Champion is crowned!
Last October's Run It Up Reno Main Event Champion Nick Aguilera has just been spotted in today's tournament.
Last year Aguilera topped a 318-player field to capture the $42,830 first prize and his first recorded live cash. A very impressive way to kick off your poker career!
From under the gun, Steve Nevius opened to 500 only to have PokerNews Editor-in-Chief Donnie Peters three-bet from the hijack to 1,400.
Nevius called and checked the flop to Peters who continued for 2,600. Nevius responded with a check-raise all-in and Peters called all-in for roughly his final 10,500.
Peters:
Nevius:
With Peters in great shape with his overpair, the on the turn gave Nevius additional outs to a gutshot straight draw as now any queen, jack or nine would give him the pot.
Unfortunately for Peters, the river would fall the and he would be sent to the rail as Nevius moved to roughly 42,500 in chips after knocking out a player earlier in the day.
The action folded to Jesse Capps on the button and he popped it up to 1,050. The small blind called, and with the action on Scott Ball in the big blind, he made it 3,600 to go.
Capps paused momentarily before four-betting to 6,500 as the small blind folded. Ball called and Capps stated, "interesting spot to flat with Aces there!"
The dealer spread a flop and Ball checks to Capps who tosses in a bet of 2,600. Ball calls and then checks the on the turn as Capps bets out a single 5,000-denomination chip.
Ball quickly folds and Capps states, "I had the best hand," and shows his .
Kevin Martin opened with a raise under the gun to 4,000, and the action folded round to a player in the hijack who moved all in for roughly 58,000. Martin called and the cards were tabled.
Martin:
Opponent:
The board ran out to see Martin's superior kicker play as he eliminated his opponent and climbed to 145,000 in chips.
Nadya Magnus open shoved her last 15,500 from middle position and Lindsey Fross called in the big blind.
Magnus:
Fross:
With Magnus in bad shape against Fross, the flop made it even worse, and when the turn and river landed the and , Magnus hit the rail as Fross moved to 125,000 in chips.
Unfortunately for Chad Holloway, he has collected his second bubble of Run It Up Reno.
The action folded to Holloway in the cutoff and he pushed his 11-big blind stack into the pot holding and was looked up by the big blind and his .
The flop brought an ace and king to give Holloway outs for Broadway but no queen would fall and he would be eliminated in 33rd place.
Unfortunately for Holloway, he - and many other players in the tournament - weren't aware of how many players were being paid out as the prizepool hadn't been announced yet although it had been posted. Holloway stated to us, "if I knew it was on the bubble I would have folded!"
