The second of three Day 1 flights wrapped up with 22 survivors from the 110 entrants that took to the felt. With an hour remaining there were nearly 40 players remaining but Jose Montes went on a hot run that saw him end with 417,000.
Montes eliminated half a dozen players in the last 30 minutes alone and by all accounts was getting hit with the deck. Joining him in the top ten are David ODB Baker and Tai Du, who just won a preliminary event of the River Poker Series against Maria Ho.
Daniel Lowery, Leslie Hallaway and Papa Karn all return at Sunday at noon where they'll play down to a winner.
Jim Wilson and Tai Du went to a flop of , Du checked and Wilson bet 3,600. The turn came , Du check-called 8,000 and then checked dark ahead of the river. The fell, Wilson bet 15,000 and Du went deep into the tank.
After some minutes Wilson started to chat Du up - which really confused him. Du apologized to the table for his tank saying, "I've wasted time and everyone deserves a hero."
With that Du threw in the call, Wilson turned up for a flopped set and Du mucked his cards.
Matt Wilson opened to 2,600, Shelby Fall called on the button and Michael Lech called from the big blind. The flop came , Lech bet 3,500, Wilson mucked and Fall called. The turn came , Lech bet 5,000 and Fall called. The river came , Lech hesitated and then bet 5,000 again.
Fall insta-raised to 20,000 and Lech sat back in his chair. He counted his stack, counted out enough to call and then literally kisses them before tossing them in the pot.
Fall tabled for quads, Lech dusted his cards away and Fall stacked 80,000 after the hand.
The cards are back in the air following the final break of the day. The field will play four more 30-minute levels and then bag for Sunday's Day 2. Registration closed with 110 entrants.
