Big Cooler Leaves Mixson on the Rail

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Carmen Mixson
Carmen Mixson

The action picked up on a {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} flop that saw Cameron Mixson all-in against Elliot Smith in what was a cooler of a hand.

Mixson tabled {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} for an overpair of cowboys but Smith then turned over the bad news when he revealed {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}. The bullets of Smith held on after a {10-Diamonds} and {2-Hearts} fell on the turn and river.

Smith stacked his newly-acquired chips and Mixson looked exasperated as he walked toward the door.

How Texas Poker Differs from Las Vegas (and Elsewhere)

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Texas Poker
Texas Poker

Not to go all cheesy cliche, but as we discovered on our weeklong journey across the Lone Star State back in March, everything really is bigger in Texas...including the poker (and the pickup trucks).

Texas poker is about as similar to Las Vegas poker and other towns as Tom Dwan's style of play is to Allen Kessler's. The game is the same in some ways, but also very different in others, starting with the legal aspect.

Peterson Takes a Flip vs. Park

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Joon Park
Joon Park

Jack Peterson opened from middle position and Joon Park jammed the cutoff. Peterson called without needing to know the total and they turned over their hands.

Joon Park: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}
Jack Peterson: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The flip between them quickly saw Peterson take a monstrous lead after the {k-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop. Park failed to land any help on the {10-Hearts}{3-Hearts} runout and was eliminated shortly after the dinner break here on Day 2.

Nathan Hays
Nathan Hays

Three players were in a hand on the flop of {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{j-Spades}. Nathan hays bet 19,000 from the button, John Gallaher called in the big blind and Andrew Bonu called from middle position.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds}, action checked around.

The river came the {j-Clubs} to pair the board. Gallaher checked, Bonu bet 32,000 and Hays jammed for 138,500. Gallaher swiftly folded and Bonu thought for about a minute before he also slid his cards into the muck.

Keating Sees Through Roh

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Alex Keating
Alex Keating

The board read {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{8-Clubs}. From the cutoff, Joseph Roh bet 68,000. Alex Keating was in the big blind and tried to fish for information from Roh.

"Do you have a good hand or bad hand? Can you take off your sunglasses?" he said to the motionless Roh who didn't respond. Keating thought some more. Eventually he called.

Roh had the {a-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for ace-high which Keating had beat with the {5-Clubs}{4-Hearts} winner.

Can't Have Lightning Without a Little Thunder Valley Champion

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Brett Murray
Brett Murray

Anthony Hu opened to 13,000 and was met with a call by David Childs. Conrad Simpson elected to shove his 88,500 stack into the middle while in the cutoff and Brett Murray called for less, having 10,000 under Simpson when the chips went in. Hu and Childs declined, setting up a flip between two short stacks.

Brett Murray: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Conrad Simpson: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

The dealer spread out {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{q-Clubs} on the board and Murray took down the pot with his pair of dimes, leaving Simpson with crumbs.

Polk Raises Out Brint to Go to Chip Lead

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Doug Polk
Doug Polk

Action was picked up on the flop as Doug Polk bet 30,000 from the hijack. Raymond Brink called in middle position.

The turn was the {9-Hearts}. Brink changed up the flow and led for 30,000. Polk took his time before sliding a big stack forward for a raise to about 120,000. Brink folded after a few moments to send Polk the pot as he is now the chip leader of the tournament barely edging out Thong Nguyen at the moment.

Nguyen added some chips to his own large stack as he bet 80,000 with the board reading {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. Charles Alex-Barton folded after a few moments. Nguyen flashed the {a-Diamonds} and stacked his chips.

Elsewhere, John New is also around the million mark and among the biggest stacks in the room.
