Carpenter's kings were no good, and he was unable make the kings full he needed as the hit the turn and the on the river. Utley had a total of 19,700, and he doubled up.
Carpenter, meanwhile, headed for the registration desk to reenter after he got his last 4,000 or so all in the next hand with and lost to a player holding .
Will Givens bet 1,025 from the small blind on a flop of and was called by Jeff Bryan under the gun. A third player made it 3,000 to go from middle position, and Givens called. Bryan shoved all in for about 18,000, and the original raiser thought for a bit before folding.
"You start this but you don't finish it?" Givens said with a laugh as he mucked.
Blair Hinkle's second shot in the tournament is going much better than the first.
He checked a board of from the cutoff and saw his opponent on the button bet 1,650. Hinkle made it 4,150 to go, and his opponent thought for awhile before calling. On the river, Hinkle took some time before checking, and his opponent immediately rolled over for a pair of sixes and a missed diamond draw. Hinkle also had missed diamonds, but his was good for a straight on the river.
Tour-sponsored pro Matt Kirby, Phil Mader, and Will Givens have all entered the tournament during Level 2. Kirby is coming off of a destructive run during the Canterbury Park Fall Classic, during which he won two events, including the main for $84,502, and placed sixth in two others en route to claiming the "King of the Classic" title. Mader and Givens have about $430,000 and $800,000 in tournament cashes respectively, so they're players to watch for as well. Both have had success at the World Series of Poker the past two years, with Mader surviving several memorable TV clashes with Phil Ivey in a deep run in 2013, while Givens snagged a bracelet this summer in Event #45: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em. All three players have found themselves at a final table already during this Mid-States Poker Tour season.
