Day 1b of the 2012 WinStar River Poker Series Main Event Set to Go

WinStar World Casino
WinStar World Casino

Welcome to PokerNews' coverage of Day 1b of the 2012 WinStar River Poker Series Main Event. Yesterday's Day 1a drew 401 players and leading the remaining 41 is Matt Newcombe with a whopping 785,500.

A slew of notable players took part in yesterday's affair, but came up short of their goal of amassing a stack and making it to Sunday's Day 2. You can bet many, if not all of them, will be back on the felt today looking to get the job done. Among those who we expect to see include Maria Ho, Vanessa Selbst, Greg Raymer, Dwyte Pilgrim, Harrison Gimbel, Kurt Jewell, and Jacob Bazeley.

Play is scheduled to kick off at noon local time, about a half hour from now, and will resume until only 10% of the field remains, each of whom will make the money and be back in action on Sunday's Day 2.

Be sure to keep it here at PokerNews throughout the day as we bring you live updates on all of the action.

Ingles Looking For Redemption

Re-entry tournaments offer redemption for those whose first attempt did not go according to plan. For Jared Ingles, Day 1b certainly offers a chance at forgetting the bitter taste Day 1a left.

After roughly 12 hours of playing, Ingles bubbled making Day 2 (and the money) when he was eliminated in 42nd place of the 401 Day 1a runners. He is back in action on Day 1b and is no doubt looking to make Day 1a a distant memory.

"Choctaw" Off to Nice Start

Justin "Choctaw" Kruger is up to about 25,000 after picking up pocket aces.

He saw the flop with two players and both of opponents called his bet of 700 following a {7-}{4-}{3-} flop. Kruger fired 1,800 when a {J-} hit the turn, but one opponent put in a raise to 4,000 and chased out the other. Kruger called and check-called 5,000 when another {J-} hit the river.

Kruger tabled his {A-}{A-} while his opponent mucked and sent a good portion of his stack Kruger's way.

Massey Loses One

Aaron Massey narrowly missed making Day 2 yesterday, lasting until the very late stages of Day 1a before busting.

He is back at it today and we caught him in a pot raising to 350 from the hijack after a player limped in middle position. The players on the button and in the big blind called, as did the limper, and the four of them saw a {10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop.

Action was checked to Massey and he bet 700. Only the player on the button called to see the {A-Spades} turn where Massey bet 12,500. Another call from his opponent slowed down Massey when the {2-Hearts} fell on the river. His opponent bet 3,000, sending Massey into the tank for about 45 seconds before he folded.
