Watson Slows Down

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Mike Watson was the first in the pot when he raised to 1,800 from middle position. Sam Phillips called from the button, as did the player in the big blind.

The flop came {j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and the first player to act checked. Watson continued his aggression with a bet of 2,500 and only Phillips called.

The dealer slid out {5-Clubs} on the turn and both players checked. The river was the {10-Clubs} and Watson took several moments before checking, and Phillips had a bit of thought as well before checking behind.

Watson showed {q-}{10-}, but the cards quickly went back on their faces as Phillips turned over {j-}{q-} to win the pot.

Final Break

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

The remaining 67 players are on their final break of the day. They'll return in 15 minutes for two more one-hour levels before those remaining will bag chips for Day 2.

Swidler Gets Swindled

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

With a little less than 20,000 in the pot, the board was reading {5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Carter Swidler was faced with a bet of 14,500 from his one opponent in the hand. He called and the dealer flipped over the {9-Spades}.

Swidler's opponent took little time to push all in for about 45,000, causing Swidler to lean back in his chair and look at the ceiling, saying "Ohhhh" in frustration of the difficult spot he got himself into. He took two minutes to finally, reluctantly give up his hand.

"Ace-king?" another player asked, wondering if that was the hand Swidler had given up. "Ace-queen?"

Swidler remained silent.

Leah Fires the Turn With Outs

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

James Yang raised to 2,100 preflop and was called by one opponent before Mike Leah came along in the big blind as well. The dealer slid out {10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{a-Spades}.

All three players checked and the turn was the {4-Hearts}, bringing about a bet of 3,000 from Leah. Yang called but the other player folded.

The river was the {4-Diamonds} and Leah continued for 5,200 which his opponent eventually called.

Leah flipped over {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and Yang showed {a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} to win the pot.

Failla Lets It Go

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Will Failla slid out a bet of 6,000 with the board reading {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades} and his opponent called almost immediately.

"Oh, snapped it," Failla remarked at the quick call.

The river was the {8-Hearts} and his opponent immediately led out with a bet of 10,000. Failla sat back with a chuckle for having been put in a tough decision. He eventually let go of his hand, giving the pot to his opponent.

A Thin Bet from Gross

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Play folded around to Jeff Gross on the button and he raised to 1,200. The player in the big blind called and the flop of {j-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{a-Clubs} hit the table.

Action checked to Gross who bet 1,000 and his opponent called. The dealer flipped out the {6-Clubs}. Both players checked and the river came down {7-Clubs}.

Gross made a minimum bet of 600 when it checked to him, and his opponent snap-called. Gross showed {j-Clubs}{8-Spades} to win the pot.

"Thin value," Mike Leah said and Gross nodded.

Madsen Bets Big

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante

Marco Caza was the first in the pot when he raised to 1,000 preflop from the hijack seat. Jeff Madsen three-bet to 2,300 from the cutoff, and the player on the button responded with a four-bet to 5,200.

Action folded back around to Caza who folded as well, but Madsen wanted to play, tossing in chips.

The flop was {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and Madsen checked. His opponent continued with a bet of 7,800 and Madsen quickly slid in 25,000 to put his opponent within a hair of all in.

After thinking for almost a minute, Madsen won the pot when his opponent gave up his hand.
