Luck Be a Lady

Joanne Monteavaro
Joanne Monteavaro
Joanne Monteavaro is the lone lady left in the field, and she is representing her fellow women of poker proudly tonight. We join her involved in another growing pot, heads up with a male player at her table.

In a raised pot, the flop shows {7-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}. With the action on Monteavaro, her opponent began to prod at her. "Just check. You should think about checking." (*chuckle*) "It'll be Phil Hellmuth style."

"Just curious, what's Phil Hellmuth style?" asked the lady.

"Just check and you'll find out," quipped the other player, still chuckling to himself.

With that, Monteavaro forcefully slid forward 25,000 chips, enough to cover her opponent. He instantly called.

Showdown:
Monteavaro: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades}
Opponent: {5-Hearts} {6-Hearts}

Looking for some big help, the turn was a good miss for the all-in player, as the {K-Hearts} gave him the added benefit of a flush draw. Unfortunately for him, the {2-Clubs} blanked off on the river, spelling his demise. He quickly stood from the table and walked straight out of the room, as his table pondered his final hand in his absence.

"What was he doing?" someone mumbled.

"I don't know," Monteavaro chimed in. "He was sure I was bluffing, but I'm playing so tight. Everyone always thinks I'm bluffing, but I haven't bluffed once."

She doesn't need to; she has moved up near the top of the board, sitting now with 115,000.

Deeb Chipping Up

Shaun Deeb
Shaun Deeb
On a board of {A-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}, Shaun Deeb bet 4,600 and Jerry Wong called. The turn brought the {9-Spades} and this time Deeb checked to Wong, who fired 8,500 into the middle. Deeb called and again checked when the river came the {9-Clubs}. Wong bet 12,500 and Deeb again called. Wong reluctantly showed {J-Clubs} {10-Hearts} while Deeb tabled {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts} to win the pot.

Shaun Deeb chips up to over 80,000 while Jerry Wong slips to under 90,000.

Toughest Table in Town

As tables continue to break, the soft tables in the field are becoming fewer and farther between. Table 2 can certainly not be mistaken for a soft table. Just look at how things are laid out over there:

Seat 1: Abraham Korotki
Seat 2: Dan Shak
Seat 3: Sirous Jamshidi
Seat 4: Will "The Thrill" Failla
Seat 5: David Fox
Seat 7: Brock Parker
Seat 9: Adam Lippert

Three Sheets to the Wind

Eric "sheets" Haber - Eliminated
Eric "sheets" Haber - Eliminated
Eric "sheets" Haber has just been eliminated. Sheets had trouble getting anything going today, and on his last hand, he was down to under ten big blinds. He open-shoved with {K-?} {J-?} and was looked up by a single opponent who held {A-?} {J-?}.

The board failed to bail out the pro, and he is headed to the exit just as Level 7 comes to a close.

The featured table sure isn't getting any easier though. Haber's former seat is now occupied by last year's runner up in this event, Eric Buchman.

Feature This

We join another pot at the featured table as chips seem to be flying around the felt over there. Action is between Billy Gazes and Dwyte Pilgrim, and on the turn, the board shows {5-Clubs} {6-Spades} {7-Hearts} {4-Clubs} with just about 10,000 already in the pot.

Action is on Gazes, and he checks. Pilgrim bets out 7,000, and Gazes elects to put in a check-raise, making it a total of 17,000 to play. This sends Pilgrim deep into the tank as he double-checks his cards and eyeballs his own chip stack.

"I'm sure I got you right now, bro," he says after a minute. After another minute more he adds, "But not enough to make a move," sliding his cards into the muck.

Gazes taps the felt with his cards and nods at his opponent. "That was a very good card for me," he says quietly. As the dealer pushes him the pot, Gazes opens up his hand, revealing {K-Clubs} {8-Clubs}, having the board crushed.

After taking down that pot, Gazes has worked his way up to about 65,000, nearly double what he had when he arrived at the featured table.
