Gates Doubles

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

Amanda Baker opened with a raise to 750 and one player flat-called before action moved to Garry Gates. He three-bet to 2,100 and action folded around to Baker. She mucked and then the flat-caller reraised all in. Gates quickly called, tabling the {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. His opponent held the {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}.

The board ran out clean for Gates and he was able to double up to 38,500 in chips.

Bad Timing for Lindley

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

We came up to Christina Lindley's table at the tail end of an all-in battle. Lindley's pocket jacks took the worst of it against an opponent's pocket aces to send Lindley to the rail. As she stood up and gathered her belongings, Lindley remarked that it was the third time she'd seen that player three-bet since being broken to the table.

Loss for Batista

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

Chad Batista raised from the button to 775 and both blinds made the call to see the flop come down {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Action checked to Batista and he bet 1,400. Both players called.

The turn was the {10-Clubs} and the big blind bet 4,400 after the small blind checked. Batista called and then the small blind called.

The river completed the board with the {9-Hearts} and everyone checked. The small blind showed the {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, the big blind the {A-Spades}{5-Clubs} and Batista the {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. Batista was lucky he didn't hit his flush as the big blind scooped the pot with a pair of aces. Batista dropped to 22,000.

Shout, Shout, Let It All Out

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

Chris Amaral is here. And now the whole tournament room knows it.

"STEVE BILLIRAKIS!" Amaral shouted across the room. "MISTER SMOKEY BUD!"

Billirakis, seated at a table in the center of the room, shook his head but did not acknowledge Amaral. Amaral, not having yet seen Billirakis, tried again.

"STEVE BILLIRAKIS! MISTER SMOKEY'S HERE!" he shouted. Again, a slight shake of the head from Billirakis.

Amaral did eventually track down Billirakis.

Levi and Billirakis Fizzle Out

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

We were expecting lots of fireworks in a hand between David Levi (early position) and Steve Billirakis (late position) that was three-bet pre-flop. Yet both players checked down the {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and the {2-Spades} turn. When the river came {3-Clubs}, Levi's bet of 2,500 was enough to fold out Billirakis and claim the pot.

On-live Poker?

Level 5 : 100/200, 25 ante

Vegas local Rob "veeRob" Perelman is in the field today. He recently noted that his table had come up with a solution to replace online poker. It involves distributing PokerPro electronic tables all across the country and then networking them together. Perelman's table calls their innovation "on-live poker". They table is already trying to raise seed capital.

"You got a million bucks I could have?" Perelman asked.

Smooth Sailing for Stann

Level 5 : 100/200, 25 ante

"Hollywood" Dave Stann is one of two players in today's field decked out in UB patches (Brandon Cantu is the other). So far it seems like Stann is encountering little difficulty at his table. He opened a recent pot to 725 behind one limper, then took the pot down on a {j-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{j-Spades} flop with a single bet.

No word if anyone at Stann's table has asked him about the latest controversy -- the DOJ indictments -- in which his sponsoring site finds itself embroiled.
