Leecy Turns the Screws

Level 23 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Action got heated at the middle table on the turn of a hand contested between Matthew Leecy and Benny Chen. Leecy checked {k-Spades}{7-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{5-Clubs} to Chen, then check-raised from 34,000 to 75,000. Chen paused for thirty seconds but ultimately did call to the {q-Spades} river. Leecy splashed a stack of purple (5,000) chips across the line as he declared himself all in. A few moments later he started moving all his stacks of orange out across the line as well. That was enough to fold Chen.

Kenny Nguyen Eliminated in 25th Place ($4,785)

Level 23 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Action folded to Benny Chen on the button and he raised to 25,000. Kenny Nguyen reraised all in for 228,000 from the small blind. Chen thought for a minute and then made the call, tabling he {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. His pair was behind the {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, but all of that would change on the flop.

The flop came down {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades} to give Chen a set and the lead. The turn brought the {10-Hearts} and the river the {Q-Hearts}. Although Nguyen started with the best of it, he finished with the worst of it and was eliminated in 25th place. Everyone left has now earned a pay jump from $4,785 to $5,557.

Pathammavong Triples

From middle position, Bo Pathammavong raised all in for 40,000. Derrick Kuenzel called from the button and James Fike called from the big blind. After the flop came down {A-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}, Fike moved all in to get Kuenzel to fold. Fike tabled the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and Pathammavong the {5-Spades}{4-Diamonds} for a flopped wheel.

The turn was the {4-Hearts} and the river the {J-Spades}. Pathammavong tripled up with a flush and has new life.

Kuenzel's Turn to Double

Level 23 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Down to 78,000, it was an easy decision for Derrick Kuenzel with {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}. He moved all in behind Jim Fike's open raise to 50,000. Fike quickly called with {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and thought he had skated by when the dealer produced a {j-Diamonds} in the window -- but fanned out behind it was {7-Spades}{k-Clubs}. Each player made a pair, with Kuenzel's pair in the lead. He doubled up to 170,000 after the turn and river blanked {9-Hearts} and {3-Diamonds}.

Fike is down to 185,000.

Jeremy Heartberg Eliminated in 26th Place ($4,785)

Vasilis Lazarou raised from under the gun to 30,000 and action folded to Jon Seaman on the button. He flat-called and then Jeremy Heartberg three-bet all in for 180,000 even. When play got back to Lazarou, he asked for a count of how much more and then made the call. Seaman folded.

Lazarou: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Heartberg: {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}

The flop came down {J-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and Lazarou added a club flush draw to go with his two overs, making for Heartberg to really have to sweat, The sweat only lasted a few moments though as the dealer placed the {Q-Clubs} on the turn and gave Lazarou an unbeatable flush. The river completed the board with the {K-Diamonds}.

Lazarou won the pot and moved to about 500,000 while Heartberg was eliminated in 26th place for $4,785 in prize money.

Lewis Doubles Up

Level 23 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

"Uh oh!" said Luther Lewis. He was all in pre-flop for 78,00 over the top of an opening raise by Matthew Leecy. Leecy called with {7-Hearts}{9-Hearts} against Lewis' {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. There was something for everyone on a king-high flop, {k-Hearts}{3-Spades}{j-Hearts}. And that's when Lewis made his declaration. It turned out ok for Lewis, who faded a heart on the {8-Clubs} turn and {4-Clubs} river. He doubled up to about 160,000.

James Riggs Eliminated in 27th Place ($4,785)

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

On the last hand before the dinner break, James Riggs was under the gun with less than 40,000. He put it at risk. Action passed to Luke Brown on the button, who also moved all in, folding the blinds. Riggs' {5-Clubs}{7-Clubs} actually out-flopped Brown's {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, {4-Spades}{5-Spades}{8-Spades}, but Brown turned an ace and held on through the river to send Riggs to dinner one hand ahead of the rest of the field.
