A small field coupled with small blinds and slow action leaves time to look over the field. Here's what we see:
3 Beanies
7 Hoodies with the hood pulled up
11 Pairs of sunglasses
5 Pairs of Apple ear buds
2 Pairs of Beats by Dre headphones
1 Pair of Bose headphones
The recent action has been dreadfully slow here during the first three levels, and most of the players are more interested in the football games on TV than the poker tournament they've payed $1,600 to enter. Or for some, double that.
But the USC/Oregon game has just ended, drawing the attention back to the felt. We'll see if the action picks up.
We've seen a pretty steady trickle of new players into the field since the evening flight began, and the number of registrants has ticked up to 80. That moves us up over 300 total players for the combined Day 1, and registration will remain open until play begins on Day 2 at noon.
Five players tossed in 325 to see a flop after Shawn Lawrence opened in middle position. The flop came and after two checks Lawrence bet 1,100 and Jason Sy called from the big blind. The turn was the and Sy check-called 2,200. The paired the board with the and both players checked.
Sy tabled and Lawrence flashed a queen as he mucked.
Grant Hillman and Drew Caseri are both back in the field for this evening session, looking for repeat runs to the final table. Both men were felted during the morning flight, and they're on their last bullets here with the maximum $3,200 committed this Main Event.
We've also spotted Donna Jetter, a lady we mentioned briefly earlier. She, too, final tabled this event last year, but she's chosen to go with only a single bullet here in the evening flight.
