Buckholtz Crippled by Kaawar

Woody Kaawar raised from the cutoff to 30,000 as the first player into the pot. Ryan Buckholtz was waiting in the small blind and he moved all in. Kaawar thought for a bit before making the call to put his tournament life at risk.

Kaawar: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Buckholtz: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

The board ran out {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} and Kaawar was able to double up.

Cantu Hurting

Brandon Cantu came in for a raise to 29,000, and Chris Cronin made the call in position. The two went heads up to a flop of {2-Spades}{j-Spades}{9-Spades}, and Cantu continuation bet to 40,000. Cronin took about 15 seconds to make the call, and the turn came the {q-Hearts}. Both players checked, and the dealer put the {k-Clubs} on the river. Cantu checked once more, and Cronin assembled a bet of 40,000, and threw it in. Cantu snap called, and could only shake his head when Cronin showed {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for a rivered straight. After the hand, Cantu is down to just 220,000.

Kuether Flops the Nuts

From middle position, Ryan Gentry opened the pot with a raise to 30,000 and was called by Joe Kuether on the button and Chris Cronin in the big blind.

The flop was {7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and the first two players checked before Kuether fired 55,000. Cronin folded but Gentry made the call.

The turn was the {5-Clubs} and this time Gentry check-called 130,000 in chips. When the river hit the {3-Hearts}, Gentry checked for a third time. Kuether placed 260,000 in the middle and Gentry went deep into the tank, eventually making the call and tabling {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}. Kuether, however, had flopped a strait with {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and used it to take a commanding chip lead on the rest of the field.

Eric Baldwin Eliminated in 16th Place ($5,763)

While aces were an undoing for Ryan Gentry on that last hand, they were a godsend on the very next hand. Eric Baldwin opened the action to 37,000, and Gentry, who was next to act, three bet to 70,000. It folded back around to Baldwin, who took about 30 seconds before putting in a four bet to 122,000. The action was now on Gentry, who counted out raising chips, and put in a five bet to 247,000! Baldwin took only about 10 seconds to move all in, and Gentry snap called. It was fairly obvious what the situation was, and unfortunately for Baldwin, he was on the wrong side of the preflop cooler.

Baldwin: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Gentry: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

Gentry got pocket aces for the second hand in a row, and this time, he was in great shape to scoop a big pot. The flop came down {j-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, and Baldwin was still in trouble. The {5-Hearts} on the turn didn't help, nor did the {4-Diamonds}, and just like that, Baldwin hit the rail. Meanwhile, Gentry is right back up to where he was before the hand with Kuether, sitting at 800,000.

The Comeback Kid

Action folded around to Joe Kuether in the small blind and he upped the action to 37,000. David Funkhauser, who had just 20,000 not long ago, three-bet to 80,000. Kuether moved all in and was called instantly by his opponent.

Kuther: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Funkhauser: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

The flop was not kind to Funkhauser when it rolled off {a-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades}. But the {4-Spades} gave him some extra outs and the {2-Spades} river was one of them.

Matt Salsberg Eliminated in 15th Place($6,932)

Matt Salsberg has been riding the short stack since the dinner break, and his luck has finally run out. Salsberg open shoved for his last 90,000 under the gun with {j-}{8-}, and was called by Ty Spires, who had {a-}{k-}. The board ran out {10-}{6-}{q-}{j-}{4-}, and Spires's straight was good enough to win the pot, sending Salsberg to the rail.

John Carreno Eliminated in 14th Place ($6,832)

John Carreno limped in early position, as did Freddy Deeb on the button. Both of the blinds came along to see the {j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop. Carreno was able to get his last 100,000 all in on the flop holding {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} but was way behind the {5-Hearts}{5-Spades} of Deeb. The {9-Clubs} turn and {q-Hearts} river were no help and Carreno was eliminated.

There is some irony to Carreno getting busted by Deeb. Carreno bought into this event on Day 2 after taking a three-outter on Day 1a. A couple of months ago, it was Deeb who bought in on Day 2 and went on to win the tournament.

Carreno confided to PokerNews earlier that he really wanted to finish in at least 7th to reach 100 overall points on the WSOP-C season and give himself a good chance at getting into the freeroll. Unfortunately, he finished just short of that mark but luckily enough for him there are still four more stops and plenty of chances for him to keep gaining points.

Plache Sweats One Out

We picked up the action on a {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} flop with Stephen Plache facing a 105,000 chip bet or raise from Raymond Dandrea. After a lot of contemplation complete with a mini-speech, Stephen Plache moved all in for 112,000 more. Dandrea quickly made the call to put his opponent's tournament life in danger.

Dandrea: {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Plache: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

The turn was the {3-Spades} and the river was the {10-Hearts}. Both were blanks for Dandrea and Plache darted up the leaderboard.

Suzie Matzura Elimined in 13th Place ($6,932)

Suzie Matzura had been riding a roller coaster the last few hours, constantly getting dwindled down before finding a way to double up time after time. However, her luck has run out, as she has been eliminated. She was down to her last 9,000, with 7,000 of that in the small blind, when Ty Spires raised to 35,000. Chris Bratene came along in the big blind, and the three of them saw a flop. Spires and Bratene checked down the whole way on the board that read {4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}, and Matzura showed {10-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for a pair of fives. It was no good however, as Spires showed {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} for a pair of aces. Spires scooped the pot, and sent Matzura to the rail.
