Another Face in the Crowd

Our first couple passes through the field this afternoon turned up a lamentably sparse crowd of notables. As play has progressed, though, we've been able to pick through the faces a bit more thoroughly, and we're starting to find some more familiar ones scattered throughout the room.

The latest man we came across was Stan Quinn, hidden quietly behind a very loud hat with a busy pattern and the letters "SJ" emblazoned on the front. You may or may not know his name, but we became well familiar with him when he won the 2010-11 Main Event at Harvey's Lake Tahoe. The rest of Quinn's tournament results have come entirely west of the Rockies, so it's nice to see him make the trip down to Palm Beach to try for another Main Event ring.

Karp Krippled

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

We just caught a bit of this pot, but it resulted in the crippling of Steve Karp.

Karp called a bet on the turn of a {K-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {2-Hearts} board, and his opponent moved all in for about a pot-sized bet on the river — maybe a bit less. Karp insta-called, but we'd never get to see his cards. Mr. Opponent tabled {4-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} for the set, and Karp has been reduced to about 5,550.

Tough Table

Table 61 has developed into a bit of a tough table as the day has progressed. It began with Mike Beasley in Seat 1, and Ryan Karp soon joined up in Seat 4. Jeff Papola eventually turned up in Seat 3 to join them, and he in particular is making life tough for the other six men at the table.

Karp is short, though, and we're going to tell you how that happened in just a moment.

Papola Chipping Up

Picking up the action on a {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} board with roughly 6,000 in the middle, action was checked to Jeff Papola and he bet 3,200. His opponent popped it to 8,000, Papola stuck around, and the {K-Hearts} hit the river.

The bet was 8,000 to Papola, but he quickly announced that he was all in. His opponent gave it some thought, but ultimately gave up his hand.

Mstr of Ceremonies

Level 5 : 100/200, 25 ante

Mstr Lynch became a household name on the WSOP Circuit last season, just less than a year ago. It was the SoCal stop in Rincon that saw Lynch win his first gold ring in the $555 event. Just three days later, he snagged one for the other hand by conquering the $1,080 as well. Lynch's success since has been muted, but he's still grinding the trail in search of number three.

Just a moment ago, we watched Lynch open a small pot to 600 in the small blind, and the gentleman in the big blind defended to see a flop. It came {2-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}, and Lynch continued out with another 775. The big blind called, and the {6-Diamonds} hit fourth street. Now Lynch check-called a bet of 2,000 from Mr. Big Blind, and the two men both checked through the {9-Diamonds} river that put a four-flush on board.

At showdown, Lynch's {Q-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} was the winner, and that pot moves him up to 33,500 or so.
