Players are back from break and Level 4 of Day 1b is underway. (Incidentally, we're designating the levels with an added "b" here during the evening session.)
By the way, players who are playing Day 1b and who did not play and bust from Day 1a actually also have an opportunity to buy back into the event a second time, although they won't be able to do so until the start of Day 2 (Level 10).
Sitting to the right of Yung Hwang, Failla watched him raise a hand to 325, something Hwang has been doing fairly frequently. "I'm supposed to be sitting on your left," cracked Failla to Hwang. "It would be much better."
Hwang smiled in response, playing out the hand with his earbuds in and losing a small pot to the button. Then came another hand, and another raise to 325 from Hwang. This time Chris Reslock — sitting in the seat Failla would prefer on Hwang's left — made the call.
The flop came and Hwang checked. Reslock bet 500, and Hwang responded by check-raising to 1,250. Reslock quickly called. The turn was the , and this time Hwang pushed out two orange chips for a bet of 2,000. Reslock again called without much hesitation.
The river was the , and Hwang tapped the table to check. Reslock sat up and exhaled. "That wasn't my card," he said with a smile as he checked behind, showing his for a flush. But then Hwang mucked his cards, and Reslock grinned, somewhat relieved his flush was still best.
"It was your card," cracked Failla to Reslock. After slipping early, Reslock has chipped back up around the starting stack.
With the board reading and a hefty 19,000 in the pot, Dwyte Pilgrim was all in for about 17,500. His opponent tanked for a good while and Pilgrim had plenty to say during that time.
"You have a jack in your hand? Whaaaaaaaaaaaat. I've seen millions of hands and a lot of players fold a jack here."
Alas, Pilgirm's opponent did indeed fold and Pilgrim took down the pot.
We're only an hour-and-a-half into the Day 1b flight — and again late registration lasts all of the way to the start of tomorrow's Day 2 — but it's looking like a smaller group has gathered for the evening session than we saw earlier today.
The big board is currently showing 228 players have registered so far for Day 1b, with some of those having already taken one shot in the earlier flight.
In a multi-way pot with the board reading , action was checked to Kyle Bowker who bet 800. One player called to see the turn where Bowker bet 5,000, covering the rest of his opponent's stack.
A call from Bowker's opponent for about 4,500 revealed , leading Bowker's . The river was no help to Bowker, but he's still off to a fine start on Day 1b with about 32,000.
We just saw an interesting four-way hand over at Table 44 with significant action and a large pot.
After Charles Townsend opened with a raise to 325 from middle position, Jack Klein called from the cutoff, Yung Hwang called from the small blind, and Chris Reslock also called from the big blind. The came all babies — — and when checked to Townsend continued for 750. Klein then raised to 1,550, and Hwang didn't wait long before reraising to 3,350. Reslock folded, and Townsend promptly set his entire stack all in.
Townsend's push sent Klein deep into the tank, muttering "so sick" repeatedly as he contemplated what to do. Finally after several minutes the clock was called, and with time running out Townsend finally folded his hand. Hwang then called all in, showing , and Townsend flipped over his for the matching nut straight.
As the turn and were dealt out, Klein told all he'd folded , his exhalations of relief caused both by the sight of the straights and the board ultimately failing to pair.
