Pender Out

Joshua Pender was just eliminated in 37th place, making him the last player to cash for $3,604.

Pender was all in on his final hand with {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} against the {A-Clubs}{A-Spades} of Travell Thomas. The flop came {8-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}, giving Thomas a set and reducing Pender's chances to less than slim.

But the {2-Diamonds} fell on the river. "It's not over," said a player across the table, noting the flush draw for Pender. Then came the river — the {A-Hearts}. "It's over, now," came the addendum.

With Pender's elimination, they're now down to four tables. Meanwhile, Thomas has had some day, having begun with just over 13,000 (and even considering not returning), he's now up over 320,000 and with nearly an average chip stack with 36 left.

Kerstetter Falls to Fish

Brandon Fish opened to 23,000 from early position and Jamie Kerstetter three-bet jammed for about 120,000 from the cutoff. Action folded back to Fish who called with {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}, racing with Kerstetter's {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}.

The board rolled out {6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} as Fish paired his king on the river to send Kerstetter to the rail in 34th place.

Will's Power

It folded around to Ryan Moriarity in the small blind, who took a look at his neighbor Will Failla's short stack and then set out a stack of gray chips for a raise, enough to put Failla all in. Failla sat back.

"Ahhh... I know you have like king-three or something," he said. Finally after about a half-minute, Failla called the raise, putting himself all in for 72,000 total.

Failla turned over {J-Spades}{10-Clubs}, and Moriarty tabled his hand... {K-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}!

"I was pretty close," cracked Failla.

The flop came {A-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, then the turn brought the {J-Clubs} as if to reward Failla for his read. The river was the {7-Spades}, and Failla doubled to survive.

"Hey, at least I didn't snap call," Failla said afterwards as he was stacking his chips. "It was... sprinkly."

The table laughed in response. "You better spell that for the blog," suggested someone, and Failla obliged with a unique and wholly inaccurate spelling.

"Oh, and can you say I had jack-queen?" he added with a grin.

Jablonski Bounced

Stan Jablonski has been in eliminated in 32nd place, good enough for a $4,509 payday.

Jablonski had become short-stacked a little earlier in a hand that saw him up against an opponent holding {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} versus Jablonski's {A-}{A-}. The board brought three hearts and a flush to his opponent, sending Jablonski down around 80,000.

He'd fight back, though, and was back up around 230,000 when a hand developed in which he opened for 25,000 from middle position, then Douglas MacKinnon reraised to 60,000 from the button. The action back on Jablonski, he shoved all in and MacKinnon quickly called.

Jablonski had {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} and was racing versus MacKinnon's {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}. The board then came {3-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, and MacKinnon's jacks remained best.

Failla Falls

Action folded to Ryan Moriarty in the small blind and he limped in. Will Failla slowly squeezed his cards and after seeing them, shoved for another 110,000-ish.

It was bad news for Failla as Moriarty snap called and tabled {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}.

"Need two pair here," said Failla, showing {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.

The dealer fanned a {Q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop, but that wasn't enough for Failla.

"I said two pair!"

However, it was not meant to be for Failla as the {6-Spades} turn and {3-Hearts} river ended his Main Event in 31st place.

Following Fish

Brandon Fish
Brandon Fish

We were mentioning yesterday how the race for the 2012-13 WSOP Circuit Harrah's Resort Atlantic City Casino Champion was a tight one, since the first nine events had seen nine different winners with none of those players having cashed in any other event thus far. That meant a nine-way tie for first in the points race, with each of those champions having 50 points heading into the Main Event (Event #10).

Once we made the money today, just one of those players was still alive, Brandon Fish, winner of Event #2 ($365 NLHE). This cash therefore nudges Fish out in front in the Casino Champion race, and in fact he appears primed to do more than just pick up a few points as he continues as our chip leader as we begin the last level of Day 2. (There are still two more events in the mix, both of which complete tomorrow.)

Fish has just over 1 million chips at present, the first player to reach that milestone.
