Quads For Overdijk; Berntsen No More

A grand total of five players saw a flop of {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}{9-Spades} fall. Norman Overdijk and three other players checked to Curtis Bertsen who shipped all in for a little over 200,000. It folded back to Overdijk who flat called with one player left to act. The final player folded, allowing Overdijk to triumphantly table {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for quad sevens.

Berntsen meekly tabled his {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} for nothing but an insignificant flush draw. The {2-Spades} on the turn filled his flush, but his fate was already sealed. The {K-Diamonds} completed the board and he was sent packing. Overdijk, on the other hand, is now in a commanding chip lead with 745,000.

Leeson Long Gone

Justin Leeson was all in and at risk before the flop. Sal Haji called and the hands were tabled to reveal that Haji had the best of it.

Haji: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}
Leeson: {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}

Leeson found hope when the flop fell {10-Hearts}{K-Spades}{5-Hearts}, giving him an open ended straight draw. The {7-Clubs} was no help and he needed an ace or a nine on the river to stay alive.

Alas, the {8-Clubs} fell on the river and Leeson was sent packing. Haji's stack, on the other hand, has increased to about 220,000.

Leblond Is Bubble Boy; We Are In The Money!

Jean Leblond had a mere 5,000 chips behind and he was seemingly fortunate enough to pick up a big enough hand to move all in with: pocket queens. Isaac Baron had {K-}{Q-} and unfortunately for Leblond, a king rolled off on the flop, eliminating him from play and sealing his fate as the bubble boy.

Simultaneously across the room, a short-stacked Patrick Wang was all in with {K-Hearts}{k-Clubs} against an opponent's {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}. The flop looked fairly safe for Wang as it came {A-}{A-}{3-Spades}, but the turn and river were the {7-Spades} and the {3-Spades} respectively, giving Wang's opponent a flush and eliminating him from play.

The tournament staff ruled that the payouts go by chip count which means that Leblond is our official bubble boy as he started the hand with less chips. Wang, on the other hand, is our 108th place finisher and the first player in the field to cash.

Collins Doubles On Money Bubble

Michael Collins was all in and at risk against an opponent on a flop of {5-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}.

Collins held {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for an open ended straight flush draw. Collins' opponent held {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} for top pair and was ahead at the time.

The {8-Clubs} rolled off on the turn, giving Collins his flush. His opponent had re-draw outs with another club but did not hit them as the {3-Diamonds} hit the river. Collins has about 240,000 in chips now and hand-for-hand play goes on.

Largest Tournament Ever Held In Canada

Level 20 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

A bit of interesting news has recently come our way. While this event is the third largest event in World Series of Poker Circuit history, it also holds the distinction with being the largest poker tournament in Canadian history. Therefore the winner of this tournament will not only hold the glory of being a WSOPC champion, but will also be the champion of the largest event ever held in Canada.

There are currently 114 players remaining of the 1,032 total entrants. With the money bubble a few eliminations away, we are closer than ever to crowning a champion.
