Derrick Yamada Leads Going Into Day 2
Welcome back to beautiful Southern California for Day 2 of the WSOP-C Bicycle Casino Main Event. We won’t have the official number of registrants until after we start today, as players have the option to register up until the start of Day 2. However, we can say that 221 players made it through yesterday’s flights, and Derrick Yamada is standing at the top with 211,300. Yamada finished runner up in Lake Tahoe late last year, and is looking to repeat his final table success here. The only other player over the 200k mark is Toan Nguyen, who bagged up 203,300.
While many big names came and went yesterday, we still have a handful who will be joining us today, and some of them are wielding big stacks of their own. This list includes Joe Tehan (148,300), Eric Baldwin (146,000), Allan Le (127,000), Doug Lee (116,300), AJ Jejelowo (112,000), and actor James Woods, who showed he also has skills at the poker table by bagging up a whopping 109,100.
Some of the players who are below the 100k mark but are still very much alive in their pursuit for that Gold WSOP ring include Nam Le (81,900), Kyle Cartwright (79,000), Michael Noori (65,000), and another actor, Kirk Acevedo (27,000). In addition, Soi Nguyen, David Randall, and Erik Roussakis are still alive in their pursuit of back-to-back Circuit Main Event Final Tables.
One player who we didn’t see yesterday was defending champion Freddy Deeb. That is because Deeb plans on doing exactly what he did last year: Register on Day 2. Deeb will come in today with a fresh stack of 20,000, but he will have to get moving early, as the blinds start at 700-1400 today.
It will be a long, action packed day today here at the Bike! The schedule is calling for 14 levels of play, and the hope is to get to a final table tonight.
