Day 1c Started

Welcome To Day 1c!

Welcome back to snowy Black Hawk, Colorado! It made me cold as ice outside, but the action is just starting to heat up here at the Lodge Casino as we are gearing up for Day 1c of the WSOP Circuit Main Event!

Yesterday saw 257 players walk through the doors of the casino and into the poker room to take their shot at a WSOP-C ring, and only 76 players survived. The man who set the benchmark yesterday was Ross Lecavalier, who bagged a whopping 211,700. The next closest competitor is Ki Nam with 150,300, and not far behind is Circuit veteran Derrick Yamada, with 149,600. Yamada finished runner up in Lake Tahoe just five months ago, and also cashed at the Main Event in Los Angeles in January.

Despite the bad weather outside, we are hoping for a good turnout today. Any player who entered just one flight yesterday can come back today and re-enter, along with any other players who have $1,675 to spend. Just like yesterday, we will be playing 12 levels, with play ending around 7:30 local time.

The players will be taking their seats shortly, and play will get underway at 11 AM. As always, we here at Pokernews will bring you all the action, so sit back, relax, and enjoy our coverage of Day 1c here at the Lodge Casino!

Clinkscales Starting Off Well

WSOP-C Points Leader Rex Clinkscales drew a brutal table yesterday, and was never able to get his stack above the starting 20,000. Well his table looks alot better today, and we just him take a small pot to put his stack in the black.

We caught the action on the turn, with the board reading {4-Spades}{j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Clinkscales checked to his opponent, who fired out 525. Clinkscales tanked for about 20 seconds before cutting out a raise to 2,200, and putting it in the pot. His opponent folded after a few moments, and Clinkscales took one of the first pots of the day.

Some More Familiar Faces

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

As expected, we recognized a few of the late arrivals here, and all three of them have won World Series gold. Carter Phillips has won two WSOP Bracelets, his most recent being this past summer, when he defeated 2009 Main Event Champion Joe Cada.

We also have a pair of ring winners. Michael "Life" Taylor won a ring at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles in January, and Michael Sanders is fresh off a ring victory yesterday in a $580 preliminary event.

Rough Start For Phillips

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

We aren't sure how he lost his chips, but as we made our latest walk through, we saw that Carter Phillips was left with just two T5,000 chips, and was getting change for one of them, meaning that he has lost half his stack by the end of the first level.

Tran Fires, Fires, Then Folds

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Nghi Van Tran made waves at the WSOP Main Event this past summer with his erratic and aggressive play, and it looks like he has brought that with him to the Lodge Casino. We just caught Tran losing a pot that has him below his starting stack.

Facing two limpers, Tran made it 400 on the button. The small blind came along, as did both the limpers, and we had a four way pot on a flop that read {8-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{7-Spades}. It was checked to Tran, who fired out 750. The small blind was the lone caller, and the turn brought the {3-Hearts}.

The small blind checked, and again, Tran quickly fired out a bet, this time of 2,500. His opponent wasn't going anywhere, as he tossed in the call. The river brought the {q-Diamonds}, and the small blind changed things up by firing out a small bet of 1,000. Despite getting great pot odds, Tran smelled something fishy, and sent his hand towards the dealer.

After that pot, Tran has fallen to 16,000.
