Donovan Sends Cedric to the Tank

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Zachary Donovan opened to 7,500 in middle position and Adam Cedric defended from the big blind. The flop came {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and both players checked to the {10-Clubs} on the turn.

Cedric checked again and Donovan made a delayed continuation bet of 11,000. Cedric called and the {4-Clubs} completed the board. Cedric checked for the third time and Donovan unleashed another barrel of 21,000. Cedric went into the tank for a couple of minutes and ultimately decided to fold his hand.

Alex Duvall Captures WSOP Circuit Gold in Just Second-Ever Poker Tournament

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Alex Duvall
Alex Duvall

The $1,700 Main Event is just one of a dozen gold ring events taking place at the Harrah’s Cherokee stop. For over a week, players have been competing for WSOP Circuit hardware and big chunks of prize money.

In Event #3: $400 No-Limit Hold’em One-Day, which saw 701 entrants take to the felt and create a $231,330 prize pool.

One of the runners was 22-year-old Alex Duvall of Charlotte, North Carolina, who was playing in just his second-ever poker tournament. Duvall made it all the way to the final table with just 10 big blinds, but he spun it up and defeated popular poker dealer Heather Alcorn in heads-up play to win the title, $43,480 in prize money, and his first gold ring.

“This is my first time playing in the WSOP, other than flight C yesterday,” Duvall explained, “I just play home games in Charlotte.”

He continued: “It feels surreal, like what the f**k just happened. Wow, it’s the most insane feeling I have ever had.”

John Phan was seen collecting a double up as his pocket jacks were victorious over pocket eights. The board ran out safe for the jacks to pull his stack up from the extreme danger zone, yet he still remains short.

Double KO for Wilkerson

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Kobie Wilkerson
Kobie Wilkerson

Kobie Wilkerson raised it up from middle position and the button jammed all in for 36,000. The big blind also moved all in for roughly the same amount and Wilkerson called to put both players at risk.

Kobie Wilkerson: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Big Blind: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Button: {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

Wilkerson rose from his chair and clapped his hands when he saw that he was in a dominating position. The board ran out {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Wilkerson scored the double knockout without much of a sweat.

Powell Busts Another To Stay at the Top

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Dennis Powell
Dennis Powell

Dennis Powell has been one of the chip leaders throughout most of the day and he continues to add to his stack as the field gets smaller. Recently, Powell had one of his opponents at risk preflop and was in a commanding position.

Dennis Powell: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

The flop fell {a-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades} and Powell's opponent looked across the table to see if he had running spades as an option but Powell held the biggest one. The {10-Spades} on the turn left his opponent drawing to two outs and the {7-Spades} on the river only improved Powell to the nut flush.

Wilkerson Gets Thin Value

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

On the river the board read {2-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}, Kobie Wilkinson bet 16,000 over to Brad Albrinck who thought for about 30 seconds before electing to call.

Wilkinson turned over the {q-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for two pair, which was good enough to take the pot as Albrinck mucked his cards.

Marder Runs Into Payne's Aces

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Antonio Payne raised it up from early position and Michael Marder shipped all in for 38,000 in the hijack. Eric Salazar flat-called on the button only to have Payne re-shove all in. Salazar finally folded and the remaining two hands were tabled.

Antonio Payne: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Michael Marder: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The flop of {j-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Spades} left Payne in a commanding position with his pocket aces. The {2-Diamonds} on the turn meant Marder was drawing dead to the {8-Diamonds} on the river.
