Layne Flack Wins with a Bluff, But Not Against Doyle

Back when it was still no-limit, Layne Flack had an interesting hand. After a flop of {J-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs} on the turn, the player in seat 6 bet 2,000, and Flack called. The turn card was the {8-Diamonds}, seat 6 bet 4,000, Flack moved all in, and seat 6 thought for a bit and then folded, leaving himself just 3,400 behind.

At that point, Flack proudly showed {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} -- no pair, and no draw. His opponent claimed to have folded a jack with a weak kicker, and he (obviously) thought he was beat.

Doyle Brunson, who is seated next to Layne Flack, said, "Do that to me, and you'll really go broke."

Burt Boutin More Than Doubles Up

When you're short-stacked it helps to pick up Aces, and it's even better when you get action. After an even shorter stack went all-in for 1,800, Boutin pushed himself for 8,100. The player in Seat 3 called and Boutin's Aces had to hold out against pocket fives and Queens. There were no cries of "Presto!" nor did any ladies appear, and Boutin increased his stack to 22,000.

Hellmuth Has to Lay it Down

Four players including Phil Hellmuth (who's under the gun) limp in, and the flop is {6-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. The blinds check to Hellmuth who bets 300. Seat 7 calls and the blinds fold. The turn is {A-Diamonds}. Hellmuth checks and seat 7 bets 1200. Hellmuth folds.

Liz Lieu Nears the Chip Lead

It seems like every minute or so we get an update on Liz Lieu's chip count. The latest tally has her at 57K, which would put her within a few thousand of Sabyl Cohen atop the leaderboard. Additional updates on Liz's progress will doubtless be forthcoming.

Phil Ivey Gives Up the Double-Through

Phil Ivey makes it 900 in late position. The button and the big blind call. The flop is {J-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{10-Spades}. The big blind checks and Ivey makes it 1800. The button and big blind call. The turn is the {10-Clubs}. The big blind goes all in for his last 2500. Ivey re-raises to 6,000 to get the dealer out, and succeeds. Ivey shows K-J and the big blind has K-Q, doubling through Ivey when the river comes {Q-Diamonds}.
