I really, really will resist goofy headlines trading on "The Magician's" nickname. But after a substantial preflop battle of the blinds built a sizeable pot, both players checked the flop after an ace appeared. The appealed enough to the big blind to bet 1,200 after Antonio checked, but the on the river drew a 3,300 bet from Esfandiari. The BB called and showed A-8, but Esfandiari had A-9 and, it turns out, really didn't need the nine on the river. Not that he probably minded.
With most of the top pros registering in advance (other players are still in the halls, waiting for their turn), there are some very tough tables in this field. Like Table 44:
Seat 2 - Nam Le
Seat 4 - Online player "Beautiful Man"
Seat 5 - Mike Matusow
Seat 6 - Michael "Martine23" Martin
Seat 7 - Andy Bloch
Seat 8 - Brandon Adams
Three way pot with Greg "FTB" Mueller, David Williams, and Eli Elezra. The flop was. Mueller bet out 100 and Elezra raised to 200. Mueller called. The turn was . Elezra check-called a bet from Mueller. The river was and both players checked. Elezra showed and Mueller mucked.
There have been a lot of problems with the new cards. Michael Binger won a pot because his opponent misread his hand. The player thought he had 6-6 when in fact he had 6-9. Binger's A-Q took down the pot. Lucky for that player, the format was Limit and he only lost a small pot.
Andrew Black raised to 150, and Sebok called. The flop came , Sebok checked, Black bet, and Sebok called. The turn card was the , Sebok checked, Black bet, and once again, Sebok called. The river card was the , and this time Sebok bet out for 3,000, and Black folded. Sebok picked up the pot worth over 2,000.
There's plenty of confusion with what format the tournament is currently running. The staff will be handing out signs for the dealers that will read Limit or No Limit. That way, every player can visibly see the format and avoid any confusion.
1993 World Champion Jim Bechtel just won a pot to push his stack up to around 13K. Under the gun Bechtel raised to 500 and was called by a player in middle position. The flop of earned two checks, but after the fell on the turn Bechtel bet just 200 into the pot. The other player must've sensed something because he surrendered the hand.
Mimi Tran raised under the gun to 200, two players called from middle position, and Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson called form the big blind. The flop came , Ferguson checked, Tran bet 100, the other two players called, Ferguson min-raised to 200, Tran called, and the other two players folded. The turn card was the , Ferguson bet 200, and Tran called. The river card was the , Ferguson checked, Tran bet 200, and Ferguson folded. Tran took the pot.
We've moved to Limit Hold-Em and that possibly changed the way this hand went down a wee bit. In middle position Humberto Brenes raised to 100 and was called by Jean-Robert Bellande and CK Hua. After a flop of both Brenes and Bellande check-called Hua's bet. The king on the turn put the brakes on all three players, and when the fell on the river Brenes' bet was enough to induce Bellande and Hua to fold. Hua showed , and Brenes flashed just one card, the . A set, or a bluff?
