Bracelet Spouses

There are only two husband and wife pairs who have won WSOP bracelets, and all four are in the building. Two of them, Harry Thomas (1985, 7S); and Jerri Thomas (2000, 7S), are in this event. Max Stern (1995, O8; 1997, 7HL; 1997, NLH) is in another event across the room, and Maria Stern (1997, 7S) is also in the room somewhere.

"He's the Golden Boy"

Phil Ivey raises on seventh street versus a player who has a made flush, and the player calls. Ivey turns over 9-9-5 with a 9 and a 5 up for a disguised full house.

"He's the golden boy," another player says. Ivey flashes a rare smile as he rakes in the pot.

Kessler Picks Up Chips

Allen Kessler wins a nice pot on seventh street with x-x-{8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{4-Spades}{7-Clubs}-x. His opponent has x-x-{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}-x. Kessler shows 7-8 for two pair.

Allen Kessler's often confused with Robert Varkonyi, the 2002 WSOP champion. Often he will come up to press row and say, "Someone finally called me Robert Varkonyi. It only took 8 hours."
