Williams Flops a Set

David Williams raised to 2,500 from the cutoff, the button re-raised all in to 7,400, the small blind called, and Williams called. The flop was {8-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. The small blind checked, Williams bet 3,000, and the small blind called. The turn was the {J-Diamonds}. The small blind checked, Williams bet 8,000, and the small blind called. The river was the {A-Clubs}. The small blind checked, Williams moved all in, and the small blind called.

Williams showed {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for a set, the small blind showed {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for top pair and a busted flush draw, and the button, who was all in before the flop, showed A-K and was eliminated on the hand.

Williams stack is up to 85,000.

Thorson Runs into a Set

On a flop of {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, William Thorson pushed all in after his opponent checked in front of him. Thorson's opponent insta-called, tabling {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for bottom set. Thorson held {K-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for top pair. The turn was the {7-Clubs}, the river was the {2-Diamonds}, and the set of eights took the pot.

Throson was down to 15,500 after the hand.

Dropping Like Flies

We've lost 121 players in the 60 minutes that have elapsed since the field returned from the dinner break. Another table breaks every five minutes or so.

The money is definitely in sight for our 299 remaining players. 198 places will be paid in this event, meaning two-thirds of those left will cash.

Chip Leader Cho Takes a Small Hit

Tournament chip leader Young Cho just made a fantastic call, getting his money in with the best hand before the flop, showing {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} against his opponent's {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}. But when the flop came {Q-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Spades}, Cho found himself drawing pretty thin.

The {K-Diamonds} on the turn paired both players, but the river was a blank, dropping Cho to 83,000. He's still the tournament leader, but now by a much smaller margin.

David Williams Doubles Up

With the board showing {8-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}, Williams moved all-in over the top of an early position bettor for 14,675. His opponent made the call, after which Williams commented, "I'm behind right now."

When they turned over their cards, David wasn't in as bad of shape as he thought he was. He tabled {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, for top pair and the nut flush draw, while his opponent showed {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}, giving him a slight lead with top pair, jack kicker.

The turn brought the {4-Hearts}, which was all Williams would need to take the lead and hold it as the river was an irrelevant {Q-Spades}.

"That's what's supposed to happen with that hand," Williams said as he raked the pot.

David now has over 30,000 chips.

5-8 is the Nuts

A player in late position limped in, the button raised, the small blind called, David Williams called in the big blind, and the late position limper called. The flop was {A-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and it was checked around. The turn was the {5-Hearts}. The small blind bet 3,000, Williams called, and the other two players folded. The river was the {10-Spades}. The small blind bet 5,000 and Williams called.

The small blind showed {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for two pair, but Williams held the mighty {5-Clubs}{8-Spades} for trips. He was up to 20,000 after the hand.
