John Murphy Eliminates an Opponent

John Murphy made a late position raise to 3,400, the cutoff re-raised to 7,000, Murphy moved all in, and the cutoff called. Murphy showed {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} while his opponent flipped over {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}. Murphy caught a Q on the turn to take the hand and bust his opponent. His stack is up to 90,000.

Brett Jungblut Eliminated

Brett Jungblut moved all in with {A-Hearts}{5-Spades} and was called by an opponent with {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}. The flop was {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, pairing Jungblut's ace, but giving his opponent the nut flush draw. The turn was the {6-Diamonds}, making the flush and leaving Jungblut drawing dead. The river was the meaningless {7-Spades} and Jungblut hit the rail.

Alaskan Curt Samples Vegas

Curt Buettner of Wasilla, Alaska is one of 270 players still alive in today's field. Playing in his first ever World Series of Poker event, Curt has already outlasted almost 90% of the field.

Unfortunately, the cold of Alaska has followed him all the way to Las Vegas and has affixed itself to his cards. "They're ice cold," he told us, adding that he's won just one big pot all day long.

Curt is closing in on the money and currently has 21,600 chips, which is only 4,000 below average.

The top 198 finishers will make the money tonight, and we'll be sure to let you know if Curt makes the cut.

John White Takes Out Three

Alex Jacob raised to 5,000 from middle position, the button moved all in, John White moved all in from the small blind, the big blind moved all in, and Jacob called all in.

Yes, you read that correctly.

With all four players all in, their cards were flipped up. Jacob held the {A-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, the button had {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, White showed {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} and the big blind flipped over {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}. The flop was {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, the turn was the {J-Spades} and the river was the {4-Spades}. White's kings held up and he eliminated all three players on the hand.

White's stack was up to 64,000 after the triple-elimination.

J.C. Tran Ousted by Quads

Facing a 2,200 preflop UTG raise, J.C. Tran called from the cutoff, and the action was heads-up going into the flop.

The dealer laid out the {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and the original raiser made it 4,500 to go. Holding pocket nines, J.C. liked the board and moved all-in. He was called instantly by his opponent who had hit a set of fives on the flop.

The turn brought the {5-Diamonds} for insurance purposes, and J.C. was eliminated from the tournament.

Top Pair No Good for Spee

A middle position player raised to 2,400 and Arnold Spee called from the cutoff. The flop was {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. The MP player checked, Spee put him all in for his last 9,000, and he immediately called, tabling J-J for middle set while Spee turned over A-Q. The turn was a 7 and the river was a 6 and Spee's opponent doubled up.

Spee was down to 29,300 after the hand.

Ladies Holding Their Own

Of the 270 players remaining in the field, only 5 of them are women, but make no mistake about it, they're playing some solid poker.

Take Noelle Huard, for example. Facing a 3,000 bet on board showing {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{A-Spades}, Noelle looked her opponent squarely in the eye, looking for any information he was willing to give away.

After some thought, she made the call. Her opponent flipped over {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, for aces and queens with a king kicker. Relieved that her read was dead on, she turned over pocket Kings and took down the pot.
