Appleman Movin' On Up

It's another double-up for Mickey Appleman. He was all in before the draw again, this time to be called by Steve Sung. Sung drew one; Appleman stood pat with another rough ten. When Sung failed to improve, Appleman's rough ten was enough to take the pot. He now has about 30,000 in chips, while Sung drops to 18,000.

Now that the rebuy period is over, play has slowed down considerably. Even big spender Phil Ivey (who at last count was in for at least $50,000) has reined in his play. Many players are choosing to eat dinner at the table, since there will be no extended dinner break tonight for this tournament.

With 10,000 chips in the middle, and both players already having drawn, Lyle Berman bet 8,000 into Erick Lindgren. Lindgren made the call. Berman had a solid hand with a 9-7, but Lindgren's 9-6 was one rank better.

The Official Numbers

Tournament staff have just announced the final numbers for this tournament. 85 players registered to play in today's event. Those 85 players generated 272 rebuys and add-ons, making the total prize pool for this event $1,735,020. Fourteen players will make the money, with 14th place receiving $26,025 and 1st place receiving $537,862.

What a Call!

After the draw, Michael Mizrachi bet 5,000 to Carlos Mortensen. Mortensen went into the tank for two minutes before making the call. Grinder announced, "ace." Mortensen turned over king-eight(!) to scoop the pot and let out a big sigh of relief. Mizrachi has dipped dangerously low to only about 10,000 remaining chips.

Steve Zolotow is out. Zolotow moved all in preflop and was called in two spots. One of those players drew to an 8-7, better than Zolotow's 10-8. John Hennigan is also out. He moved all in only to run into the 7-6 of Philippe Rous.

OMG! Phil Galfond Wins Three Way Pot

Tom Schneider raised to 1,800 from under the gun. Phil "OMGClayAiken" Galfond called from middle position and Layne Flack called from the small blind. Each player drew one card and then Flack bet 2,500. Schneider made the call but Galfond had other plans. He bumped it up to 9,000 straight. Flack passed, Schneider made the call. Galfond showed {8-?}

and Schneider mucked. After the hand Galfond is up to approximately 44,000, while Schneider and Flack slip to roughly 17,000 and 63,000 respectively.
