Hellmuth Hits Two Outer

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth
A big roar emanating from table Hellmuth provokes our intrepid reporters to race over to the far end of the room to catch the tail end of the action.

After arriving only recently, Hellmuth found himself all in with pocket kings against aces for "the third time this week". However, unlike previous occasions, the poker gods were smiling on the Poker Brat, the board coming {8-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}... {K-Clubs}.

Hellmuth now on 8,500.

Alexander Kostritsyn Elliminated

On a flop of {6-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, Aussie Millions champ Alexander Kostritsyn bet 300 and was called in one seat. The turn came the {2-Spades} and, after his opponent checked, Kostritsyn bet 650 and, again, was called. On the {3-Hearts} river, Kostristsyn called all in with {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for the straight, but came unstuck against {Q-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for the flush.

Guitarist Plays Winning Tune

Well, it would appear as though Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian is no slouch at the poker table, as he has increased his started stack by several hundred within the opening levels.

On a board of {9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{J-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and with 1,450 in the pot, Scott Ian raised his opponent's leading bet of 1,000 to 2,500 to take the pot down uncontested.

A Very Mad Monk

Ouch
Ouch
Dane Lomas raises to 250 preflop, the button calls, as does Andy Black in the blind. On the {3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} flop, Black checks, Lomas bets 450, the button raises to 1,500, Black calls all in for 1,100 and Lomas folds.

Black has {5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, opponent {8-Spades}{7-Spades}.

Turn = {J-Spades}

River = {9-Spades}

Running spades bring the flush, and Black the door.

Phan Makes Great Call

One player in stunning form is John Phan. On a {4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs} board, he managed to find a call to a 1,000 river bet with just {Q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, his opponent forced to show a defeated {A-?}{10-?}.

Several hands later, Phan increased his stack to 8,000 after check-raising all in on the turn of a {4-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts} board with {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. We didn't catch his opponent's hand, but it appeared as though the {4-Spades} river was academic.

ShronkDown

PokerRoad Radio Producer Justin Shronk was recently eliminated from the tournament by 'Friend of Full Tilt' Peter Jepsen.

Jepsen opened the pot with a raise to 250 from early position and the action folded around to an unknown player on the button who made the call. Shronk then shoved all in from the small blind for approximately 1,600. When the action returned to Jepsen, he too moved in, isolating Shronk as the button folded:

Shronk: {A-?} {J-?}
Jepsen: {10-?} {7-?}

According to Shronk, a ten hit on the flop and the rest of the board blanked out, sending him to the rail early on Day 1.
