David Singer Eliminated in 5th Place ($112,641)

David Singer - 5th Place
David Singer - 5th Place
John Phan opened with a raise from under-the-gun to 54,000 and the action folded to David Singer in the big blind who made the call.

The flop came {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{3-Spades} and Singer checked to Phan who said "same bet" as he put 54,000 into the middle. Singer thought briefly before declaring he was all in, but before the words had left his mouth, Phan exclaimed "I call!" and slammed {K-Clubs}{3-Clubs} onto the table for two pair. Singer showed {J-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} and would need to hit his gutshot straight draw or runners to survive.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds} and the river the {6-Hearts} and Singer misses out on a second bracelet to be eliminated in 5th place for $112,641 in prize money.

Neckar Takes One From Vengrin

We caught the action on the turn with the board reading {10-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. Johnny Neckar led out for 65,000 from the small blind and Matt Vengrin made the call on the button.

The river brought the {4-Spades} and Neckar bet another 125,000. Vengrin grimaced before making a crying call. Neckar showed {K-Clubs}{10-Spades} which was good to take down the pot.

Neckar is now up to 1.2 million while Vengrin has now lost his chip lead.

Stewart Newman Eliminated in 6th Place ($ 88,927)

Stewart Newman - 6th Place
Stewart Newman - 6th Place
Stewart Newman was all in preflop and John Phan made the call.

Newman: {K-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}
Phan: {K-Clubs} {J-Hearts}

Newman had Phan dominated going to the flop. The worst card for Newman fell when the flop came {3-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {5-Hearts}. Phan did a fist pump and did a hushed, "Yes." The turn was the {4-Spades}, leaving only one of the three remaining queens as outs for Newman. A harmless {5-Spades} fell on the river and Newman finishes our tournament in 6th place.

Newman is still walking around the tournament room looking disgusted that he was outdrawn the way he was. While it is no consolation now, Newman can take some solace in the fact he got his money in as the favorite.

Neckar Singing

The action folded to Johnny Neckar on the button who raised it up to 65,000. Alex Bolotin folded the small blind but David Singer called from the big blind.

The flop arrived {10-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Singer checked to Neckar who fired a continuation bet of 75,000. Singer then slid an extra stack of orange chips into the middle to declare a raise of 100,000.

Neckar thought briefly before announcing that he was all in. Singer asked for a count and it was enough to cover Singer's stack. He thought for a few minutes before giving up his hand.

Neckar smiled, flashed his cards to his entourage on the rail before tabling {A-Diamonds}{4-Spades} for complete air!

With this bluff Neckar is now up to over 900,000 leaving Singer on the short stack with about 270,000.

Bolotin Tangles With Chip Leader

An interesting preflop war just developed between Alex Bolotin and Matt Vengrin.

Vengrin opened with a raise to 55,000 from early position and the action passed to Bolotin on the button who made it an additional 95,000 to go. Vengrin thought for a few moments before tossing in a heap of green 25,000 denomination chips - a raise of about 200,000 more.

Bolotin went into the tank and laid down his hand. The deep stacks are allowing for some interesting preflop battles, with Vengrin getting the upper hand and the pot with his 4-bet on this occasion. Vengrin is over the 1.6 million mark with Bolotin now down to under 400,000.

Thuyen Doan Eliminated in 7th Place ($69,165)

Thuyen Doan - 7th Place and last woman standing
Thuyen Doan - 7th Place and last woman standing
Thuy Doan moved all in on the button for 260,000. John Phan in the small blind made the call.

Doan: {6-Spades} {6-Hearts}
Phan: {A-Hearts} {J-Clubs}

The flop put Phan solidly in the lead when the board came {J-Spades} {3-Clubs} {5-Hearts} . Only one of the remaining sixes in the deck would help Doan. The turn of the {A-Spades} gave Phan two pair and the river card of the {4-Diamonds} sent Thuy Doan out of this event in 7th place.

Doan was the last woman eliminated from today's event. She proved that she isn't just a good female poker player, but a good overall poker player. It will be interesting to see what she does in future events at this year's World Series.
