The cutoff raised to 800 and Chris Ferguson called from the big blind. The flop was {Q-Spades} {7-Hearts} {4-Spades}. Ferguson check-raised his opponent all in and after some thought he decided to call, tabling {5-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} to Ferguson's {K-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}. The turn though, was the {5-Hearts}, making the cutoff two pair. The river was the {9-Clubs} and Ferguson slipped to 10,000 in chips.

A Hand Made for TV

An early-position player raised to 900 and action folded around to Phil Hellmuth on the button. He checked his cards and then moved all in for just over 10,000. The early-position raiser would have to make the call for his tournament life, and eventually did. The players showed:

Hellmuth: {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}

The flop came {A-Clubs} {J-Spades} {8-Diamonds}. Hellmuth stood up and clenched his fists tightly near his chest and shouted "God!" as he saw the ace. Before he could do anything else, the dealer put the {K-Spades} down on the turn. The table erupted and Hellmuth said, "Well I hit my one outer, but you've still got two." The river blanked, coming the {5-Diamonds}, and Hellmuth stacked the pot. He sent a player home and now has just over 21,000 chips.

Morgan Machina is Early Leader

Morgan Machina
Morgan Machina
With the field still just over 1,000 players, it looks as though Morgan Machina is our early chip leader. From Mission Viejo, CA, Machina has a lengthy poker resume that includes eight prior WSOP cashes, two of which were final tables, and over a half million in career earnings. Machina is currently commanding a stack of just over 26,000.

Greg "FBT" Mueller Eliminated

A middle position player raised to 600 and Greg "FBT" Mueller pushed for his last 2,150 from the cutoff. Jimmy Fricke cold-called from the small blind and the initial raiser passed. The players showed:

Mueller: {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs}
Fricke: {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}

The flop came {10-Hearts} {K-Spades} {K-Hearts} giving Fricke a stranglehold on the hand. Mueller thought he caught up when he saw the ten in the window, but the two kings behind it soured his mood quickly. The turn and river came the {7-Diamonds} and {6-Hearts} respectively and Mueller was sent packing.
