Ding!

From late position, Clayton Bell opened the action with a raise. Two seats over, the player on the button put in a re-raise, and the action came back around to Bell. After a moment of consideration, he decided to make a stand, sliding all 14,900 of his chips into the middle. His opponent quickly called, and Bell's tournament life was on the line.

Showdown
Bell: {J-Hearts} {9-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Spades} {K-Hearts}

The flop was disastrous for the all-in player, coming out {K-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {2-Clubs} to put him in terrible shape to survive. The turn provided a bit of help though; the {Q-Hearts} gave Bell a few outs to the gutshot straight. And wouldn't you know it, the {10-Diamonds} struck the river like a bolt of lightning, giving Clayton Bell the winning straight and sending his opponent storming across the room in disgust.

Gettin' There

After the last 15-minute break of the evening, the remaining 100 players are back in their chairs and ready for two more hours of action. The money bubble is drawing ever nearer.

Morris Moves Up

Kyle Morris was working with a short stack of under 10,000 chips, and looking down at {10-?} {10-?}, he moved all in first into the pot. The players to his left were involved in a conversation with the floor staff, and two of them quickly folded. The player on the button was distracted by the conversation and, thinking the action was folded to him, announced, "I raise."

The floor was called over to make a ruling, and they correctly decided that the player was required to put in at least the minimum raise, as verbal declarations are binding. The blinds ducked out, and the mis-raiser sheepishly tabled {A-?} {7-?}. The board ran out safe for the at-risk Morris, and he has earned a courtesy double up to right at 20,000.

A Chip Leader Emerges

The board shows 117 players left in Event #1, putting the average stack at just above 22,000. One man has stormed to the chip lead over the past two levels, outchipping the rest of the field by more than 20,000. Casey Kuhn is a dealer at the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort in Iowa, making the trip out west to do some playing of his own. It's working out well so far, as he is sitting pretty on 92,000 chips. When we asked him how his day was going so far, Kuhn simply said, "I'm just trying to run good."

So far, so good, Mr. Kuhn.

SITREP

We have reached the end of Level 7. The blinds are set to move to 400/800 with a 100 ante. The field is taking a quick pause to color up and race off the T25 green chips. One hundred forty-four players remain, and we'll play on through Level 10.

"Oh, Cooler!"

Opening the pot from the hijack seat, Roger Nordgren put in a raise to 1,700. Next to act was Ivas Abrahim, and he elected to make a re-raise to 4,750. On the button, Kyle Morris had already looked at his hole cards, and he quickly announced, "All in." Nordgren seemed stunned by the news when the play came back around on him. "What's going on here?" he mumbled to nobody in particular. Reluctantly, he slid his cards into the muck.

Abrahim was the only man left, and he shot a glance over at Morris. "What, no respect, Kyle?" After a slight but noticeable pause, he made the call, tabling {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts}. "Oh, cooler!" someone at the far end of the table noted, as Morris turned over his {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} (Nordgren claimed to have folded pocket queens). The board ran dry for Morris, coming {9-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {8-Hearts} {5-Spades} {2-Clubs}, and relieving him of half of his chip stack. The final count for Abrahim was 12,575, and he has more than doubled up close to 30,000. After that slip up, Morris is back to right around 13,000 himself.

Jack McClelland Eliminated

Jack McClelland - Busted
Jack McClelland - Busted
We caught the action on a {5-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} flop and Jack McClelland was faced with a bet of 2,500. After mulling it over, McClelland went all in for 9,100 total. One opponent folded and it was back to the original bettor. He went into the tank and eventually made the call with {A-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}. McClelland tabled {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} and looked to avoid a diamond.

It wasn't meant to be as the {K-Diamonds} landed on the turn. The {4-Spades} river was just a formality as McClelland quietly exited the amazon room.

Dinner Bell

We've just reached the end of Level 6, and the 187 remaining players are taking 90 minutes for dinner. Play will resume at 8:20pm local time!

Internet Woes

We apologize for our absence over the last two hours or so. It's clear that there are still a few kinks to be worked out in the Amazon Room, as the wireless internet is notoriously stubborn here on opening day. Moving this Casino Employees event back to the start of the schedule has allowed the staff the chance to put out many small fires today, solving all of the annoying little problems that can cause major trouble when the full throng of media arrives.

We can't say how long it will last, but for now, we're back in business!
