Hellmuth Called with Five-Six

"Now don't you do that again"
"Now don't you do that again"
Actually no sooner than Hellmuth's stack was established as 9,000 than he managed to drop a few.

A player raised to 525 and Hellmuth made it 1,225 total. A call, and a flop.

Flop: {K-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}

Both players checked, and moved on to the turn.

Turn: {7-Spades}

It checked to Hellmuth who bet 700; his opponent called and they saw a river.

River: {10-Diamonds}

Hellmuth's opponent considered, and then announced, "I'm afraid you'll check, so I'll bet." He wasn't sure how much to bet though, so Hellmuth suggested 2,350. Duly, the gentleman bet 2,350 and Hellmuth called. His opponent flipped over {5-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} for a flush.

"He called my raise with five-six!" lamented a horrified Hellmuth. "I wanna throw up! He won't last 20 minutes, I'm going to take all his chips."

The next hand Hellmuth raised it up, declaring it a, "steam raise." He took it down on the flop.

Ferguson Busts, Moves to the Mixed Event

Really not bothered
Really not bothered
Chris Ferguson, short-stacked and distracted by games on his phone for much of the day, has finally bitten the tournament dust. He open-shoved for a mere 1,175 in mid position, and the gent on the cutoff reraised to isolate. They flipped, in at least two senses of the word, and Ferguson was soon to be heading for the $10,000 Mixed event.

Ferguson: {8-Clubs} {8-Hearts}
Cutoff: {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}

Board: {6-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {10-Hearts}

"Goodbye," said a not too heartbroken Ferguson. "Mixed games," he declared, rubbing his hands, wished everyone good luck, and wandered off.

Watching the Ladies

Ms Shak - tiny horrible Yorkie more or less visible
Ms Shak - tiny horrible Yorkie more or less visible
Sadly we're not all taking the evening off and heading down to the Strip; instead we are conscientiously counting the chips of some of the notable female players in today's event.

Liya Gerasimova: 18,800
Beth Shak: 3,900 with a horrible little Yorkie dog toy thing perched atop her chips
J.J. Liu: 7,900
Sandra Naujoks: 10,200
Mandy Baker: 4,100

Level: 6

Blinds: 150/300

Ante: 25

Mahrenholz Crippled

In a blind-on-blind confrontation, Karl Mahrenholz in the big blind and his opponent in the small saw a {Q-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {7-Hearts} flop. Mr Small Blind checked and Mahrenholz bet, only for Mr Small Blind to raise. Mahrenholz pushed, the small blind called all in, and they were on their proverbial backs.

Mahrenholz: {J-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}
Mr Small Blind: {Q-Spades} {10-Spades}

Turn: {10-Clubs}
River: {4-Diamonds}

Mahrenholz is down to exactly 1,000, and is, we suspect, not long for this tournament.

Not Shedding Chips

One Cody Shedd has killed two poker-playing birds with one stone in a three-way all in confrontation on an {8-?} {5-?} {7-?} {A-?} {9-?} board. Not sure exactly how this all came to pass as I only caught the very tail end of the hand, but Shedd's pocket nines were good against his opponents' respective {A-?} {4-?} and {8-?} {7-?}.

We're Chip Counting

Bracelet for some reason not in this shot.
Bracelet for some reason not in this shot.
Neil Channing: 0 ("It wasn't really my day...")
TJ Cloutier: 16,800
Perry Friedman: 21,000
Jim Meehan: 16,200
Scott Montgomery: 24,000
Shannon Shorr: 13,000
Bill Gazes: 11,200
Jan von Halle: 4,600
J.C. Tran: 11,600
Kathy Liebert: 9,000
Tom McEvoy: 11,700
Jason Mercier: a whopping 47,000, much of this due to a curious hand where he held pocket queens against an opponent's raggy ace. An ace on the flop, but a queen on the river. He is, incidentally, wearing his shiny new gold bracelet.

No More Naujoks

Look into my eyes...
Look into my eyes...
This tournament just got a little less easy on the eye as Sandra Naujoks has busted out with {K-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} on the turn of a {K-Clubs} {6-Spades} {7-Clubs} {8-Clubs} board. Her opponent had aces, though, and without any miracle straights, trips or similar on the completely blank river, she is gone.
