The Lady and the Ivey

Phil Ivey: Stack looked better pre-colour up
Phil Ivey: Stack looked better pre-colour up
An unidentified as yet lady player just boosted a shortish Phil Ivey up to 7k in an Omaha hi-low hand...

She check-called all the way to the river, first off on the {A-Spades} {5-Spades} {2-Spades} flop, then on the {8-Hearts} turn, then finally on the {4-Hearts} river.

She showed {A-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {8-Spades}
Ivey showed {A-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {6-Spades} for the flush and the 6 low.

Heart but No Hearts for Leonidas

Evdakov: Still on 16k
Evdakov: Still on 16k
Toto Leonidas is up to 16k after winning an early level 7 pot. Threeway until the turn - the board {J-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {4-Spades} {K-Hearts} - the small blind checked, big blind Leonidas bet, and button Nikolay Evdakov only called. Now heads up, the {7-Hearts} river brought another check from Leonidas, and another bet from Evdakov. Leonidas just called, despite having no low and a third heart having just hit, but his {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} was good against Evdakov's at-it {7-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {5-Spades} .

Smith Trips Up Two Players

Gavin Smith - increasingly chipped up
Gavin Smith - increasingly chipped up
Gavin Smith is doing pretty well at this stage, and just took down a pot which swelled threeway until sixth street and then fizzled out on the river (much to his scooping delight).

The three hands which made it pretty far were:

Jan Sjavik: [XX]{A-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {J-Hearts}
Gavin Smith: [XX]{3-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {4-Spades} {A-Clubs}
Dutch Boyd: [XX]{A-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {5-Hearts}

Sjavik had been betting up until fifth street, when he was raised by Smith. Both players made the call, but when Smith bet sixth, Sjavik folded and left it to the two of them. They received their final cards; Boyd checked to Smith, who bet yet again. Boyd thought for a long time, looked at his opponent's hand and then finally laid his own down.

Smith showed him {J-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs} anyway.

Three Times the Charm?

Allen Kessler is no more. After lingering about as shortstacked as it is possible to be for a whole level, he got it all in three times - once in Stud and twice preflop in Omaha. This being a hi-low split game, he won at least half of the first two pots, but the final time his {A-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {Q-Spades} failed to hit against {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} . The most vocal participant on a table which includes Dario Minieri thus exits the tournament area.

Todd Brunson Straightens Low Into Scoop

Todd Brunson (picture from HORSE) would understand
Todd Brunson (picture from HORSE) would understand
Big blind Todd Brunson bet out all the way (not sure about the flop, actually) until the board read {6-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} . Diamond-heavy or not, his bet on the river secured him both halves of the pot as his {2-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {7-Hearts} turned out to be good.

It occurs to me sometimes that poker terminology might be well-nigh incomprehensible to the casual reader. I apologise if there are any of those at the minute - the title of this post is a case in point. It looks like what came out when we put the Dutch Pokernews through babelfish...

Cernuto Lets His Boots Go

And not in the way that I've had the same sneakers for three years...

Heads up with Justin Young, John Cernuto bet a{A-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {4-Diamonds} flop, which Young check-called. The same thing happened on the {3-Spades} turn. However, on the {5-Clubs} river, Young switched to betting out. After a short while, Cernuto mucked his hand face up - {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} no good...?

He's in the danger zone now with just 3k.
