Chips for the Champ

Opponent: (X) (X) / {8-Spades} {4-Spades} {10-Spades} {j-Diamonds} / (X)
Ellis: (X) (X) / {j-Hearts} {k-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {10-Hearts} / (X)

The defending champion in this event is Freddie Ellis, an old-school East Coast stud grinder. Last year he gave Daniel Negreanu a clinic in how to play Stud. This year, Negreanu's not at Ellis' table but that hasn't stopped Ellis from putting on the clinic.

Ellis was the only caller on third street after an opponent completed aneight. Ellis had the betting lead for the rest of the way, putting in a bet every time. Each time his oppponent called. At the river, the call from Ellis' opponent was a little slower but he did finally call. Ellis turned up {k-Spades} {q-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} in the hole for two pair, kings and tens. When his opponent mucked, Ellis asked, "Did you have two pair?" There was no response.

Negreanu passes the 50k Mark

Bring In: (X) (X) / {4-Spades}
Daniel Negreanu: {9-Clubs} {q-Spades} / {q-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {a-Spades} / {a-Hearts}
Ted Forrest: (X) (X) / {5-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {j-Hearts} {2-Hearts} / (X)
Player 4: (X) (X) / {8-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}

Daniel Negreanu has climbed towards the top of the leader board after coming out on the better end of a hand with Ted Forrest.

A player brought in and Negreanu bet, getting calls from Ted Forrest and another opponent, with the player who made the bring in folding. On fourth street, Negreanu bet again, and called a raise from Forrest. The other opponent folded and we were heading to fifth street heads up.

On fifth street, Forrest bet and called Negreanu's raise. Forrest bet once again on seventh street and mucked when Negreanu showed his hand, saying, "Your two pair are good."

No River Joy for Juanda

Juanda: (X) (X) / {a-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {8-Spades} {9-Diamonds} / (X)
Gaspard: (X) (X) / {4-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {q-Diamonds} / (X)

You've heard of the tank-fold, no doubt. Now John Juanda introduces the smirk-fold. We picked up the action on fifth street, where Jean Gaspard made open fours. Gaspard bet and Juanda called. It was the same action on sixth street. Down the river, Gaspard bet one last time. Juanda peeked first at his hole cards and then at Gaspard's board. He smirked, shook his head and mucked his hand.

Forrest Growth

Forrest: (X) (X) / {q-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {5-Clubs} / (X)
Opponent: (X) (X) / {10-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {a-Hearts} {3-Clubs} / (X)

A three-way limped pot was eventually pushed in Ted Forrest's direction to add to his slowly-growing chip stack. Forrest bet fourth street and was only called by one player. Both e and his opponent checked fifth street. On sixth, Forrest checked his open pair of fives and then called a single bet. His river bet went uncalled.

Greenstein Slips, Climbs

Barry Greenstein: {j-Diamonds} {j-Hearts} / {6-Spades} {4-Spades} {j-Hearts} {a-Hearts} / {3-Diamonds}
Seat 4: (X) (X) / {10-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} / (X)

Greenstein had lost a good chunk of of his chips when he brought in on this hand. His opponent completed, Greenstein, raised, and his opponent re-raised with Greenstein making the call.

On fourth street, the player in Seat 4 bet and Greenstein called. However, on fifth street, he raised his opponent's bet, which was called, as was Greenstein's bet on sixth street. Greenstein made one last bet on seventh street, got the call, and won the hand with a set of jacks.

Greenstein is now back up to 21,500 in chips.

Ivey Flushed

Ivey: (X) (X) / {k-Diamonds} {a-Hearts} {j-Hearts} {4-Spades} / (X)
Opponent: (X) (X) / {4-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {k-Spades} / (X)

Phil Ivey is getting a massage and is fixated by the NBA game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics right now. But it didn't stop him from completing his king on third street. An opponent behind raised, and only Ivey called.

Ivey had the lead on fourth street and bet out. His opponent called. Both players checked fifth street. That was all the incentive Ivey's opponent needed to bet sixth street and seventh street. We're not sure if Ivey could beat his opponent's {k-Clubs} {a-Clubs} {a-Spades} two pair, aces and kings, but we know he definitely couldn't beat his opponent's club flush.
