No Value for Hellmuth's Nuts

Daniel Negreanu opened for 1,375 from the button and Phil Hellmuth called from the big blind.

Hellmuth checked dark before the flop came down {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Negreanu checked behind. The turn was the {2-Diamonds} and Hellmuth led out for 2,200. Negreanu folded.

Hellmuth threw up his hands like he had been electrocuted. "Just a straight, man," he said as he stacked up the pot.

Duke Outranks the Prince

Annie Duke was one of the shorter stacks today, but she's looking good after a chip infusion from the generous Prince of Poker. Scotty Nguyen raised from the hijack to 1,900, and Duke defended her big blind. The flop fell {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{5-Hearts}, and Duke checked. Nguyen checked behind. After the {9-Hearts} turn, Duke fired 2,500, and Nguyen called. She bet another 6,000 on the {a-Diamonds} river, and Nguyen called again. Annie tabled {a-Spades}{q-Hearts} for trip aces and scooped a much-needed pot. Duke is up to 36,000 while the Prince dropped back to 71,000.

Cunningham on a Downswing

Allen Cunningham raised to 1,800 under the gun, and on the button, Joe Hachem reraised to 4,500. Cunningham paid to see the {10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop. He checked to Hachem, who bet 5,800. This time Allen called, then checked again after the turn brought the {2-Diamonds}. Hachem fired 12,200, and Cunningham was forced to give it up.

After folding two expensive hands in a row, Cunningham is down to 42,000. Hachem, on the other hand, is going the other direction with 59,000.

Seed Plays Back at ElkY

Huck Seed opened for 1,300 from the small blind and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier called from the big blind.

Seed checked the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} flop over to Grospellier, who bet 1,600. Seed called and they went to the turn, which fell the {4-Clubs}. Seed checked, Grospellier bet 4,100 and Seed came in with a hefty raise to 18,000. Grospellier called.

The river was the {J-Spades} and Seed led out for 31,000, putting Grospellier to a decision for the rest of his chips. "ElkY" couldn't pull the trigger and folded, conceding the pot to Seed.

Seed is the chip leader with 96,225.

Nguyen Miss-N Out on a Freeroll

Antonio Esfandiari has turned up the charm, and the prop betting, now that the ESPN cameras have arrived at the secondary stage. He gave Scotty Nguyen a $100 freeroll that he couldn't spell Allen Cunningham's last name.

Nguyen managed to mumble "C-U-N-I-N-G," and Esfandiari got a good laugh without having to fork over the cash.

Scotty didn't mind either, since he just picked up a nice pot from Allen. Cunningham raised to 1,800, and Nguyen reraised to 5,800. Cunningham called only to check-fold the {5-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop. Allen is down to 53,000, and Nguyen may not be able to spell, but he can stack up 84,000 in chips.

Negreanu Chips Up

Daniel Negreanu opened for 1,375, Phil Hellmuth called from the small blind and Dan Harrington called from the big.

The action was checked around on the {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop. The turn fell the {K-Clubs} and Hellmuth led out for 1,400. Negreanu called. The river was the {4-Hearts} and both players checked.

Negreanu turned over {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} for top pair and took it down.

Seidel Spares Duke

Erik Seidel raised to 1,700 from middle position, and Annie Duke moved all in for 17,300. Seidel, who is Duke's good friend, finished runner-up to her in the NBC Heads-Up Challenge this year. He tanked for several tense minutes before giving up his hand. Duke breathed a sigh of relief and scooped the pot, moving up to 19,975. Seidel still has around 64,000.
