Chan Chipping Up

Terrence Chan has seen his stack increase yet again, this time chipping up at the expense of two-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Vitaly Lunkin. In the hand in question it was blind versus blind and the last of Lunkin's chips were all-in holding {8-Spades}{4-Spades}. Chan held {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and the board showed {7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{q-Clubs}, with Chan's high-card good enough to rake in the pot.

Huck Aces

Brandon Demes was under the gun when he opened up the pot. Huck Seed was in middle position holding {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} and threw in the three-bet. Demes made the call and a {q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop hit the felt. Demes checked the flop and Seed put in a bet. A call from Demes and a {6-Spades} hit the turn. This time Demes checked and then raised when Seed put in a bet. Seed called and the {7-Diamonds} completed the board. Demes slowed down on the river, opting to check-call a bet from Seed.

When Seed turned over his {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}, it was enough to see Demes' cards into the muck and see himself rake in the pot.

The Fighter and the Stud

Terrence Chan's recent exploits as an MMA fighter are well known. What people must remember is that he is also known as one of the best limit hold'em players in the world.

Jeff Lisandro is arguably one of the best Stud players in the world, with four World Series of Poker gold bracelets coming in Stud variants of the game. These two players are currently at the same table and we caught a recent hand that saw the two rumbling.

From early position, Chan opened up the pot. Only Lisandro called from the small blind and a {k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop was dealt. Lisandro checked on the flop and Chan bet. Lisandro opted to call and a {9-Clubs} turn was dealt. This time when Lisandro checked and Chan bet, Lisandro decided to fold and send the pot to Chan.

Baker Doing Fine

David "ODB" Baker is doing fine today, seeing his stack increase slightly despite the fact we recently watched him lose a pot. In the hand in question, we caught the action from the flop, which showed {q-Spades}{j-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. It was Baker first to act and he opted to check-call a bet from his opponent. The {7-Spades} turn would see Baker again check-call a bet and the {5-Diamonds} was dealt as the final card on the board. Another check-call from Baker and his opponent would turn over {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}, too strong for Baker who flashed a {j-Spades} and sent his cards into the muck.

Warwick Busts One

Australia's Warwick Mirzikinian finished Day 1 of this tournament with second largest chip stack and has also had a good start today. Recently Mirzikian knocked out Dale Burner.

Burner, who started the day with only 1,200 in chips, managed to survive and thrive in the early stages of play but the end of his tournament life began when he got his last remaining chips in against Mirzikinian on a {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop. Burner held {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and would need some help against Mirzikinian's {k-Spades}{8-Hearts}. When the turn and river bricked out, it was all over for Burner, while Mirzikinian gets richer.

Negreanu Wins One

Daniel Negreanu has just managed to take down a small pot that went a little something like this. Folded to in late position, Negreanu raised it up and received one caller from the button. The {9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} was dealt on the flop and Negreanu would check-call a bet from his opponent. The {5-Diamonds} on the turn would see both players check and the dealer slammed down a {7-Spades} on the river. This time Negreanu would fired out a bet and his opponent would slide his cards into the muck as Negreanu took down the pot.

Buchanan Busto

Shawn Buchanan will have to stay on the modern-day version of the 'best players without a bracelet' list, as he has recently been seen making his way out of the tournament area. Remarkably Buchanan has almost $5 million in tournament winnings over a several year span and is yet to take down a bracelet. However, he is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world, with several final tables in all forms of the game, including a 2nd-place finish in $10,000 H.O.R.S.E event at the 2011 World Series of Poker.
