As the Field Shrinks

With the board reading {10-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, a player in the hijack seat bet 12,500, Mazin Khoury called from the button, and a third player in early position folded. That made the pot about 40,000 when the {8-Diamonds} landed on the turn, prompting a check from Khoury's opponent. He fired 18,500, and Khoury's opponent went into the tank.

"Hey what happened to the screen?" asked one player of a passing staff member as all waited. He was alluding to the board showing how many players are left. Apparently it is about to be restored. "They're about 68 left," the player was informed.

"Tell me when there's 10," he answered with a laugh. "I think you'll know," said Kevin Elia, presently still among the leaders in chips.

Finally Khoury's opponent called, then both checked the {8-Diamonds} river. Khoury watched his opponent turn over {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for tens, and Khoury mucked.

Antonius' Queens Cracked

Maya Antonius
Maya Antonius

Jason Everett opened to 6,500 from early position and was met with an all-in shove for 38,000 by Maya Antonius. Action folded back around to Everett, who made the call after some thought.

Antonius: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Everett: {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}

Antonius was in great shape to double, however, the {3-Spades}{9-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} board left Everett with a set of treys for the knockout.

Everett is sitting on 220,000 after that one.

Blair Hinkle Minus a Cheerleader

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Mason "Uncle Ron" Hinkle has been a major supporter of his brother Blair in the past few days. Mason was by his brother's side during Blair's deep run in Event #38, a $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event that concluded on Saturday. Blair took fourth place for $192,734, and Mason was there through the end.

Today, though, while Blair is deep in this $1,000 event, Mason is over at the main stage in the Amazon Room watching friend James Mackey at the final table of Event #43. Just like he did at Blair's final table, every time Mackey wins a pot, Mason stands up and repeats his one-man cheer: "Ohhhhhhh yeahhhhhhh. Wooooooooooo."

It echoes through the Amazon Room. And brother Blair — seated across the room — grins every time.

Blair is closing in on back-to-back final tables here in Event #44. If he returns tomorrow for Day 3, you can bet Mason will be back in his cheering section.

Conway Emerges as New Leader

Thomas Conway just took a nice pot from Mazin Khoury, our previous leader, to take the pole position here in Level 17.

Conway opened with a raise from middle position and, after Khoury three-bet from the button, Conway put in a four-bet. Khoury called and the two players went heads-up to a flop of {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades}. Conway led out for 32,500 and Khoury called. Both players then checked the {10-Diamonds} turn and {Q-Clubs} river, and Conway tabled {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for a turned pair of tens. Khoury looked shocked to see his opponent's cards and he tossed his hand into the muck. Conway has eclipsed the 400,000-chip mark, and Khoury has slipped below 200,000.
