Schwecke Leads With 20 Left, Allen Bari Close Behind in Second

John Racener still in the hunt

The massive $1,500 Omaha Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better tournament saw 220 players return for the second day of play. The goal was to play down to a final table but there are still 20 players remaining as we head into the final day. There are plenty of big names remaining amongst which Allen Bari, Dutch Boyd and Gavin Griffin stand out. Bari and Griffin are chasing their second WSOP gold while Boyd is already looking to add a third one to his collection.

We started off the day over 100 spots from the money, but it didn't take us long to get close. Daniel Negreanu was doing very well from the start while Jason Mercier busted out within half an hour. Phil Hellmuth was very vocal from the start and played two very entertaining pots against Barry Hartheimer you just have to check out. Click the link to read what happened to Hartheimer who ended up min-cashing. (Hand 1, Hand 2) Hellmuth himself made a deep run but saw it end in 52nd place. Negreanu didn't last much longer and busted in 45th place.

Towards the end of the day we lost a lot of big name players like Dan Shak, Ryan Lenaghan, Todd Brunson, Shaun Deeb and David "Bakes" Baker. Tomorrow play will resume with 20 players at 1pm local time and the goal will be to play down to a winner. Make sure you get ready for a long day of exciting poker on PokerNews.com!

Lenaghan Sends Shak Out The Door

Dan Shak
Dan Shak

We just asked Ryan Lenaghan what happened to Dan Shak and he told us the following. On a {7-}{7-Spades}{6-Spades} flop Shak got his money in with {A-Spades}{3-}{7-Spades}{Q-} against Lenaghan's {A-}{2-}{8-}{9-}. The turn was a {5-} giving Lenaghan both the nut low and high. The river was the {J-Diamonds} which didn't help Shak who quietly left the tournament as Lenaghan shoots up the leader board.

Negreanu is Busto

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Negreanu's seat was empty and we had to ask the players at his former table what happened. John Racener, Mikhail Petrov and Gavin Griffin were all paying attention and brought us up to speed.

Negreanu mucked at showdown with {7-}{4-}{2-}{2-}{q-} on the board when his opponent showed {A-}{2-}{3-}{7-} for the nut low and a full house. Unlucky for Negreanu who got his second cash of this year's WSOP and will probably be back tomorrow when the $5,000 Seven Card Stud tournament will be played.

Hellmuth Ends His Fued

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth and Barry Hartheimer had been clashing on many occasions today, but that is all over now. Hellmuth just knocked his opponent out and luckily for us there was still plenty of chit chat going on during that final hand between the two.

With the flop reading {9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} Hellmuth was first to act from the small blind and he threw out 5,000. "That's a little much there buddy!," Hartheimer said within a second and Hellmuth realized he could only put in 2,500. "Well I raise," Hartheimer said making it 5,000 on his own part. The third player folded and Hellmuth said, "You just wanna get it all in now?," pressuring Hartheimer who wasn't going to back down out of this one. Hellmuth put in another raise making it 7,500 and Hartheimer called with 9,500 chips left behind.

The turn was the {10-Clubs} and Hellmuth bet 5,000. "Well now we can get it in," Hartheimer laughed as he put in his last chips. Obviously Hellmuth followed with the call immediately and said, "Well I've got top set. What do you got Barry?". Hartheimer showed {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts} as he said, "You shouldn't have even been in the hand with two queens", as he was looking for a blank on the river. Hellmuth had {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and when the river brought out the {2-Diamonds} Hellmuth hit his full house. "I never thought it wasn't gonna come. I had one coming," Hellmuth said with a smile as Hartheimer shouted, "Payout on table #428".

Phil Hellmuth is doing very well so far and with Hartheimer gone he looks to get full control of this table.
