Soma Takes it Home with Ace-King

Level 33 : 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante

Thomas Schultz opened from the button for 500,000. Leo Soma made the call from the small blind before the big blind got out of the way.

The players checked the {7-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop, leading to the {4-Diamonds} turn. Soma fired 2,000,000 into the middle. Schultz took a moment, but eventually found the call.

The {9-Hearts} river was checked through, leading to showdown. Schultz turned over {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, but his ace was no good, thanks to Soma's bigger {a-Spades}{k-Spades}.

With the bigger ace, Soma scooped the pot to add to his growing chip lead.

Gallardo's Turn Raise Takes it Down

Level 32 : 125,000/250,000, 250,000 ante

Leo Soma opened from the hijack for 500,000. Maximiliano Gallardo, in the big blind, was the sole caller.

Soma fired for 300,000 on the {6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{q-Spades} flop. He again earned a call from Gallardo.

On the {2-Spades} turn, Leo sized up and fired his biggest bullet yet, firing to the tune of 1,250,000. Gallardo moved all in behind him, with the effective stack of 3,950,000. Soma made the laydown relatively quickly, much to the disappointment of his fans on the rail, who have been cheering him on all day long, recently draping a French flag over the rail in support.

Gallardo scooped the pot.

Joe Cada Eliminated in 7th Place ($61,098)

Level 32 : 125,000/250,000, 250,000 ante
Joe Cada
Joe Cada

Joe Cada raised preflop to 500,000 and Leo Soma reraised to 2,350,000. Cada then moved all in for around 4,000,000 and Soma snap called.

Joe Cada: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Leo Soma: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

With one of his outs in his opponents hand and an ace in the window of the flop, it wasn't looking too promising for Cada's kings. The board ran out {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades} to give Soma top pair with aces, busting Cada out of the tournament in seventh place.

Gallardo, Zhechev, Cada Take Down Pots Without a Showdown

Level 32 : 125,000/250,000, 250,000 ante

Leo Soma opened action to 500,000 from under the gun. Action folded to Maximiliano Gallardo in the small blind, who made the call.

Soma fired another 500,000 on the {2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop. Gallardo raised him to 1,300,000. After a moment or two of thought, Soma made the laydown, giving the pot to Gallardo.

On the next hand, Ivan Zhechev opened the action to 500,000 from the cutoff. Soma, now the big blind, was the lone caller.

Zhechev fired for another 700,000 on the {9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{a-Clubs} flop. After confirming the bet size, Soma made the call.

On the {5-Diamonds} turn, Zhechev moved all in. Soma snap folded.

Next, Joe Cada moved all in preflop from middle position. Action folded to Thomas Schultz on the button. He thought for a moment, before making the laydown as well. As he did so, he made a reference to a conversation he and Cada had last night, which elicited a smile and chuckle from Cada. The players behind Schultz got out of the way as well, giving the pot, consisting of the blinds and ante only, to Cada.

Ivan Zhechev shoved all in on his big blind for 2,200,000 and the only caller was Thomas Schultz in middle position.

Thomas Schultz: {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Ivan Zhechev: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

The board ran out {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{q-Spades}{7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} and Zhechev's pocket nines gave him a higher two pair than what showed on the board to win the pot and get the double up.

Gallardo Doubles Up Through Wellborn

Level 31 : 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante

Maximiliano Gallardo, from middle position, opened the preflop action by moving all in with the effective stack of 2,050,000. Action then folded around to Daniel Wellborn in the small blind. Wellborn moved all in as well, ensuring the fold of the big blind behind him.

Maximiliano Gallardo: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Daniel Wellborn: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Wellborn failed to connect on either overcard with the {2-Spades}{7-Spades}{k-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} board, ensuring that Gallardo's pocket nines held, giving him the double up.
