Margetting the Chips In

Last Lady Standing from this year's WSOP Main Event, Leo Margets, has been having a fairly tough time by the looks of it. Down to 10,000 fairly early on, she has been hovering around that number for some hours now.

Most recently, she shoved from the small blind to a late position raise from another player at the table; he folded with some speed.

"Did you have a pair?" he enquired, as Ms. Margets raked in the pot. "No," was her only reply.

She's on 11,500 right now.

Banter on Tap

The action has really slowed down on the upper deck, but the banter on the feature table remains rife, with Men 'The Master' Nguyen soaking up all the attention.

"I'm trying to make him spit," claimed Andy Black at one point.

"Shall we race these ones, Men?" suggested Jeff Madsen as another order of Coronas were delivered.

"I might say something wrong," answered Nguyen. "I wanna be a nice guy, although nice guys finish last."

Hellmuth: Being Run Over?

On a {4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} board, Allen Cunningham bet 3,500 and Phil Hellmuth folded {6-Spades}{6-Hearts} face-up. "I'm gonna let you run me over," he said, "but I'm going to keep showing you for that time when I do get you."

Cunningham didn't appear too daunted. He has 21,000.

Goodwin Doing Good Job of Winning

I happened past EPT Barcelona runner-up Marc Goodwin's table where I discovered the following:

- Mr. Goodwin has 93,000 in chips.

- he acquired most of those when he knocked out Tom Dwan. Dwan raised from the button and Goodwin flat-called with pocket jacks, to see a {J-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {5-Hearts} flop which they both checked. Goodwin checked the {3-Clubs} turn as well, and then made it 5,000 when Dwan continuation-bet 2,000. They saw a {10-?} river and Goodwin now bet out 10,000. Dwan pushed, Goodwin called, and Dwan turned over a most unfortunate {10-?} {5-?} for a smaller full house.

- Goodwin is still reading WSOP media coordinator Nolan Dalla's biography of Stu Ungar -- the same book he was reading all the way through the recent EPT Barcelona where he did so well. "Haven't you finished that yet?" I asked. "No, I'm afraid to," he replied. Furthermore, the book has now been dedicated and signed to Mr. Goodwin by the delighted author. Everyone is very happy. Except possibly Tom Dwan.

Kabbaj Collects the Levy

Nicolas Levi is out. He button raised to 1,125 with {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} before pushing to John Kabbaj's reraise of 4,000. Kabbaj had {A-?}{K-?}, and although Levi made a flush draw on the turn, Big Slick held.

"I didn't think my hand was particularly playable post-flop with my stack," commented Levi in the aftermath.

$2 Steaks

A new table has formed in the back room that is tougher than a $2 steak:

Jeff Madsen
Christian Harder
Andy Black
Alex Kravchenko
Men Nguyen
Jonathan Plens
Erik Seidel
Jens Kyllonen

Thor Wields Minor Hammer

Todd Brunson raised preflop, and Thor Drexel called out of the big blind. Drexel has had some interesting luck with the table draws today -- he started with Phil Ivey to his immediate right, and now has monster stack Jason Mercier sitting there instead.

Anyway, they saw a {3-Spades} {8-Spades} {3-Hearts} flop, and Drexel checked. Brunson bet, Drexel called, and they saw an {A-Clubs} turn. Drexel now bet out 2,300 -- and with the minimum of fuss, Brunson passed.

Brunson Jr - 47,000
Drexel - 52,000

Burn, Burn, Burn... Card

Right in the corner of the casino, in the very finest of nooks, a new chip leader has emerged with little more than a murmur. He is none other than Sandor Demjan, a Hungarian amateur who's a dead ringer for Johnny Cash with his black coat and shades. He must like cash himself, as he currently has a whopping 150,000.
