Roger Hairabedian Leads Stacked Final Table

Roger Hairabedian (Day 2) Leads The Final Table
Roger Hairabedian (Day 2) Leads The Final Table

We're mere moments away from beginning a final table that will crown the third champion of the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe. Roger Hairabedian was able to rise above the field during Day 2 play to claim the top spot among the chip counts. The path to victory will not be easy for Hairabedian, however, as the final table includes such names as Michael Mizrachi, Joe Hachem, and Jason Mercier.

Day 2 began with only 25 players but despite the small size of the field it took some time to whittle down to the final table. Names such as Aubin Cazals, Jan-Peter Jachtmann, and Ran Azor appeared back on the felt for Day 2 but were unable to make the money. Canadian pro Sam Chartier busted on the stone bubble, allowing Vanessa Selbst to come away from this event with a min-cash. When Bruno Fitoussi was eliminated in 10th place, the final table was set.

Jason Mercier Eliminated in 9th Place (€12,245)

Jason Mercier - 9th Place
Jason Mercier - 9th Place

Michael Mizrachi raised to 8,500 from under the gun and Jussi Nevanlinna called from the next seat over. Jason Mercier called from the button and the blinds got out of the way.

The three players saw a flop that was filled with nines on nines on nines. The {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop prompted all three players to check their option. The {10-Spades} came on fourth street and Mizrachi checked again. Nevanlinna fired 12,500 and Mercier called. Mizrachi decided to check-raise, making it 25,000 to go. Both players called and the board completed with the {8-Diamonds}.

Mizrachi checked and Nevanlinna moved 60,000 into the center. Mercier had a pained look on his face as he deliberated his action. Finally, Mercier announced a call and Mizrachi mucked his hand. Nevanlinna showed the {9-Clubs} first, and followed it up with {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. Mercier showed {10-}{10-} and then threw away his hand.

After exiting the tournament area, Mercier tweeted the following:

Jason Mercier will take home €12,245 for his efforts.

Michael Schwartz Eliminated in 8th Place (€15,357)

Michael Schwartz - 8th Place
Michael Schwartz - 8th Place

Michael Mizrachi raised to 8,500 from the cutoff only to find short stack Michael Schwartz announce a three-bet to 29,000 from the small blind. In the big blind, Joe Hachem went into the tank for about a minute.

"What are you going to do?" asked Hachem to with Mizrachi with a smile.

"Depends on what you do," Mizrachi quipped back.

Another twenty seconds passed.

"I fold," announced Hachem. Mizrachi then dipped into his stack and pulled out enough chips to call.

The flop came down {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and Schwartz moved his last 11,500 into the center of the table.

"May the Schwartz be with you," said Mizrachi, an obvious Mel Brooks fan, as he tossed in calling chips.

Schwartz: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Mizrachi: {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs}

Schwartz was well ahead on the turn, but Mizrachi picked up some outs when he paired up on the {8-Diamonds} turn. The {9-Spades} on the river sealed the deal, as Mizrachi's straight made Schwartz the second victim of this final table.

Mizrachi's stack is now well over 300,000 while Schwartz has exited the tournament room €15,357 richer.

Mizrachi Doubles Through Nevanlinna; Seizes Chip Lead

Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

Michael Mizrachi raised to 10,000 and Jussi Nevanlinna called from next door. The rest of the table folded and the flop came down {Q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}.

Mizrachi checked and Nevanlinna bet 15,000. Mizrachi made it 45,000 to go and Nevanlinna three-bet all in.

The word "call" could not come out of Mizrachi's mouth fast enough as he tabled {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for top set and the second nut diamond draw. Nevanlinna showed {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades} for the nut diamond draw and was in dire need of help to send Mizrachi home.

The turn was a diamond, filling up Nevanlinna's flush. Unfortunately for Nevanlinna, it was the {9-Diamonds}, which paired the board and gave Mizrachi a full house of queens full of nines. The board finished with the {2-Hearts} and Mizrachi was able to score a key double up which catapulted him into the top chip position. Nevanlinna, who was our chip leader, has severely fallen due to this massive hit.

The Pot of The Tournament! Michel Abecassis Eliminated in 7th Place (€19,606)

"Are you getting tired of that name yet?" Michael Mizrachi just said jokingly to the announcer after he had raised to 11,000 under the gun. Joe Hachem laughed but folded, and Ville Mattila called.

Michel Abecassis was in the small blind and he moved all in for 48,500. Mizrachi called from the big blind, and the action was back on Mattila.

"I raise pot," Mattila said and slowly but surely he put out a four-bet to 199,000.

"Don't shake now, put it out right," Mizrachi said with a smile as Mattila was struggling a little bit with his chips.

"The staff wants to go home early," Mizrachi added as he decided to make the call after about 30 seconds.

"Big pot," was Mattila's response as Abecassis was awaiting his fate.

The flop brought out {10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{J-Hearts} and Mizrachi moved all in right away. Mattila had 89,500 chips left behind and called creating a massive pot worth 622,500 chips.

Showdown:
Ville Mattila: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{6-Spades}
Michael Mizrachi: {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Michel Abecassis: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

Mizrachi was looking for help in order to bust two players, but the turn was no good for him. The {A-Diamonds} came off and Mattila hit his set. The river brought the {8-Hearts} and Mattila took a massive chip lead while Abecassis was eliminated.

"You think he's gonna die, but he multiplies!"

The Grinder's reply, "Nuts."
The Grinder's reply, "Nuts."

This final table is quite possibly one of the most entertaining ones we've seen in a long time, and Michael Mizrachi is mostly responsible for that. Ville Mattila just raised to 12,000 and both blinds defended creating three-way action.

The flop came down {K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and both blinds checked to Mattila who bet 21,000. Roger Hairabedian was in the small blind and he folded. Mizrachi called from the big blind, and another battle between these two emerged.

The turn was the {J-Clubs} and Mizrachi checked again.

"I bet pot," Mattila said, who fired out 80,000. Mizrachi would have have 48,000 chips behind if he decided to call, but he did so.

The river brought out the {2-Spades} and Mizrachi moved all in right away. Mattila wasn't happy, and called reluctantly.

"Nuts," Mizrachi announced as he threw his cards face up on the table. He showed {9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and took down the pot with a straight. Mizrachi is right back in it while Mattila retains a slight chip lead.

"You think he's gonna die, but he multiplies!" Mizrachi said with a smile as he began stacking his new chips. This final table is far from over!

Joe Hachem bust out in sixth place
Joe Hachem bust out in sixth place

In Joe Hachem's final hand it was Roger Hairabedian who limped once again. Michael Mizrachi had no intentions of missing out, and called as well. Both blinds stayed in the pot and the flop brought out {J-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{6-Spades}.

Hachem was in the small blind and he bet pot, 24,000, with just 4,500 behind. Mattila decided to raise pot to 96,000 and the two other players folded. Hachem jokingly made it seem like he was folding, but obviously committed his final chips.

Showdown:
Joe Hachem: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Ville Mattila: {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}

The turn was the {4-Diamonds} and the river the {A-Hearts} ending Hachem's tournament in sixth place.

Roger Hairabedian raised under the gun to 16,000 and Michael Mizrachi called. Jussi Nevanlinna was next to act and he made it 66,000. The action was folded to Hairabedian who tanked, but folded. Mizrachi moved all in and Nevanlinna called for just 14,000 more.

Showdown:
Jussi Nevanlinna: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Michael Mizrachi: {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{J-Spades}

The board ran out {J-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, and Mizrachi made a straight. Nevanlinna was eliminated, and just four players remain.

Jussi Ryynanen Eliminated in 4th Place (€ 45,581)

Jussi Ryynanen

Two hands after Jussi Nevanlinna was eliminated it was time to go for the other Jussi. The flop read {J-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} when both blinds, Roger Hairabedian and Michael Mizrachi, checked. Jussi Ryynanen checked on the button, and three players saw the turn.

On the turn the {A-Spades} hit, and it was checked to Ryynanen again. He bet 40,000 and only Hairabedian called.

The river brought out the {5-Spades} and Hairabedian lead out for 120,000. Ryynanen tanked for a bit before moving all in for a total of 216,000.

Hairabedian looked shocked and stared into the distance for quite some time. He played around with his hat a little, and after about four minutes he decided to call. Ryynanen looked defeated, and Hairabedian turned over {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}.

"I thought you had pocket aces," Hairabedian said as the young Fin looked very displeased. The Frenchman took down this massive pot as we are down to three players.

Michael Mizrachi Eliminated in 3rd Place (€62,749)

Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

In back-to-back hands Michael Mizrachi just lost all his chips. First he raised from the button to 17,000 and Roger Hairabedian three-bet to 55,000 from the big blind. Mizrachi called with only 99,000 left behind.

"A gift for you," Hairabedian said as he bet 100,000 before the dealer could put out the flop.

The flop came down all rags and Mizrachi had to decided for his tournament life.

"I wish I had a pair. I've just got low cards and hearts," Mizrachi said who eventually folded his cards. On the very next hand Hairabedian completed from the small blind, and Mizrachi checked in the big.

The flop came down {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Spades} and Hairabedian checked. Mizrachi bet pot, which was just 16,000, and Hairabedian quickly re-raised the pot. The bet was 64,000 and Mizrachi instantly moved all in. Hairabedian called.

"I've got a full house," Mizrachi said to his friends on the rail.

Showdown:
Michael Mizrachi: {2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}
Roger Hairabedian: {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Hairabedian needed a seven, eight or five in order to take the lead, and the turn brought the {8-Diamonds}. Mizrachi couldn't make another comeback as the river was the {2-Hearts}. Mizrachi was knocked out in third place, and the heads up battle will now go between Hairabedian and Ville Mattila
