Channing Out Jogs Moorman

Neil Channing
Neil Channing

I wanted to say Channing out sprints Moorman as he won a race to claim victory but seeing as it's the second to last match to finish, I think "jogs" in more accurate.

Moorman open shoved for 79,200 and Channing called after getting a count to create a showdown:

Channing: {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Moorman: {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}

The board ran {q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}{a-Hearts} hitting Channing's queen.

Svanevik Doubles

Sondre Svanevik, involved in one of the less action-tastic matches, finally got his whole stack in preflop with {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and found himself dominated by Daniel Steinberg's {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. However, a rather favourable turn made him the best hand and he doubled up to the chip lead, 160,000 to Steinberg's 80,000.

Board: {4-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

Steinberg vs. Svanevik Slow Burner

If Makhija vs. Karr was the catherine wheel which comes off its nail and spins round the garden terrorising the kids, then Steinberg vs. Svanevik is the Traffic Light which only does green, once a minute. Tough battles and small ball poker, with quiet, considered decisions are the order of the day, with recent action seeing almost no flops. Five hands, five preflop raises (two threebets from Steinberg), five pots won right there.

Keep Calm, Karry On

McLean Karr: tie like my Grandma's 70's wallpaper
McLean Karr: tie like my Grandma's 70's wallpaper

And just like that - pwah - he's gone...

Amit Makhija is eliminated by McLean Karr after a five-level grind and final comeback which bumped him into a slight lead only to catapult him into last-man-standing almost immediately as Makhija fires a big bluff and gets it called.

On a {8-Spades} {4-Hearts} {J-Spades} flop, Karr bet out 17,800 and Makhija thought about it quietly for a good while before finally moving his whole stack (c.80k) in. Karr looked like he'd bitten into a raw onion, but called quickly nevertheless.

Makhija: {10-Clubs} {7-Clubs}
Karr: {A-Clubs} {J-Hearts}

Turn and river: {K-Hearts}...{Q-Spades} meaning that the chip leader for most of the day now beat a hasty retreat while Karr fills out one of those little pieces of paper which say, "Come back at 7pm."

Painful Fold

Chris Moorman just put himself through the ringer coming to a decision against Neil Channing. Moorman made it 8,000 to go before Channing pushed. Moorman's decision was made way more difficult as he had Channing jabbering in his ear the whole time. Examples of the things said:

"I hope you're not going to nit-roll me again like earlier."

"He doesn't know how strong his had is. That'll be his inexperience!"

"I'm going to have to look at my hand again, I've forgotten what it is."

"He's probably only got nine-eight".

Eventually Moorman made the fold after lifting his head off the table rail and then he begged Channing not to show a card. He didn't.

Fast Karr

Amit Makhija
Amit Makhija

Amit Makhija has been the chip leader in his match for most of the afternoon, but McLean Karr has just now snatched that lead away.

We caught up with Karr checking the turn of a {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{10-Spades} board. Makhija bet 9,000, but Karr made it 22,700 to go. After a pause, Makhija called.

The turn was the {q-Hearts} and this time Karr gave it some thought - before betting out 38,800, with just 15,000 left behind. Makhija tanked up long and hard, and eventually folded, giving Karr the lead for we believe the first time in this match.

Karr - 150,000
Makhija - 90,000

Channing Up on Chips, Down on Luck

Chris Moorman - lucky man
Chris Moorman - lucky man

Chris Moorman is still at a chip disadvantage, but fighting back. Just now he raised to 8,000 from the button and was called by Neil Channing, but took it down with a 9,000 bet to Channing's check on the {8-Spades}{4-Spades}{a-Spades} flop.

As Channing said to passing EPT Deauville winner Jake Cody, "I've got more chips, but he's got more luck."

These Players Not Interested in Break

We think the casino is pumping something soporific into the air over on the far side of the room, as we have just three matches still going in this first round, and they're all taking place over inthe corridor down the side of the stage: Amit Makhija vs. McLean Karr, Neil Channing vs. Chris Moorman and Daniel Steinberg vs. Sondre Svanevik.
