JC Tran has been eliminated by Markus Golser in a cooler of a hand. The action folded to Golser on the button who made it 3,600 to go and Tran called in the SB to see a flop. Tran then check-raised Golser's 5,000 c-bet up to 15,00 and called all-in when Golser shoved.
Tran: for a flush.
Golser: for middle set.
The turn bricked but the river came to make quads for Golser to put him up to 175,000.
Mark Thurgood has doubled up his short stack. Fabrizio Baldassari opened the cut-off to 4,000, Thurgood pushed all in from the button and Baldassari made the call.
We take a moment to recognize the departures of Jon Aguiar and Allen Cunningham in rapid succession. Details are scant (we understand Aguiar lost a 150,000-chip race with jacks against ace-king), but the long and short of it is that our field is minus two dangerous players.
It's the last break of the night, twenty minutes of down time. We'll be back to play one more level before the Day 2 survivors head off to the bar or to the bed for the night.
Daniel Negreanu just handed over 20,000 of his stack to Remy Biechel in a hand that went into the break but said to the Frenchman he could've got the lot on the flop. Negreanu raised to 4,600 and was only called by the Frenchman to go to a flop where Negreanu's 4,500 c-bet was called by Biechel. The turn came and this time Negreanu check-called an 11,000 bet. Both players checked the scary river.
Negreanu tabled but lost out to the Frenchman's for a set. Negreanu down to 111,500, whereas Biechel up to about 100,000.
Mike Matusow pushed for around 30,000 from late position holding and Andrew Pantling gave him a spin with . The board came and Matusow couldn't improve enough to get a much needed double up. He was eliminated as a result.
From under the gun, Anton Wigg raised to 4,700. Action moved around the table to Nick Schulman in the small blind. He reraised to 14,500. Wigg then four-bet to 32,700. Schulman thought... and thought... and thought. In the end, he folded his hand and dropped back to 279,000. Wigg increased to 150,000.
