PokerStars Two-Day Weekender Tournament Debuts this Weekend!

PokerStars

PokerStars is known for hosting the biggest online poker tournaments every weekend and while the pros, grinders, and recreational players all line up to for a shot at life-changing money and fame, the length of time it takes to compete is a huge detriment to many.

But the world's largest poker site has a solution and is changing the history of online poker once again by adding a two-day MTT known as "The Weekender" to the weekend schedule.

Two-day online poker tournaments are not new. PokerStars schedules World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) events for two days regularly but after listening to feedback from the online players' community, change is in the air and on the way.

The Weekender is an 8-max major event with a $530 buy-in that kicks off on Saturday, August 15, at 16:30 CET, and the scheduled play will run through 25 levels — six hours on Day 1.

Day 1 starters will begin with blinds at 20/40/5 and 10,000 chip stacks. Blinds increase every 12 minutes for the first 10 levels of play and then increase to 15 minutes for the next 15 levels.

Day 2 (Sunday) puts cards in the air at the same time — 16:30 CET — but the blind levels start at 20 minutes and remain at that level until a winner is decided.

The Weekender has a $100,000 guarantee but as the tournament gains popularity, a number of things could change once PokerStars has more information on how well the tournament is received. One thing PokerStars is sure to take into consideration is how The Weekender affects the entry rate of other tournaments set for the weekend.

Satellites are running now for as little as $5.50 if you are ready to play for a seat in the inaugural Weekender tournament. If you can't make it this weekend, you can check out the tournament on Friend of PokerStars Jaime Staples Twitch poker channel.

The chance to spend part of the weekend playing online poker and spending part of it with family and friends or relaxing downtime, instead of locked into a tournament for hours on end, could become the standard for online poker as PokerStars tests another means to improve the player experience.
