Jesse Doing Great

Over on Table 2, Jesse "On The Mac" McKenzie, Patrick Healy and Joel Feldman were all committing a bet of 1,125 preflop. McKenzie was the player who opened the pot to 300 and Feldman had three-bet from the small blind after Healy flat-called from the button. At this point, the dealer readied three cards for the felt.

Flop: {10-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Feldman led for 1,400 here and McKenzie made a fairly quick call. The dealer then turned over a {7-Hearts} and Feldman again led, this time for 2,300. A call from McKenzie and a {4-Hearts} completed the board on the river. Feldman tapped the table here and sent the action to McKenzie. Without hesitation and with his hand over his mouth, McKenzie said a muffled, "all in." The dealer asked him to repeat it and McKenzie did just that. Feldman fairly quickly flicked his cards into the muck and McKenzie tabled a single {6-Diamonds} as he raked in the nice little pot.

Danny Aces Some Chips

By the time we arrived at Table 2, there was already a {j-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} board out on the felt and the action was heating up in a hand involving Joel Feldman and Danny Chevalier. At this point there was already over 4,000 in the pot and Feldman was busy checking to Chevalier, who was on the button.

After just a few moments, Chevalier bet 2,200 and Feldman took his time before making the call. At showdown, Chevalier turned over {a-Clubs}{a-Spades} - enough to send Feldman's cards into the muck and the chips into Chevalier's stack.

Barer Staying Active

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Ami "UhhMee" Barer is no stranger to multi-table tournaments, having more than $3.8 million in online tournament winnings, including several PokerStars Spring Championship of Online poker final tables. We recently watched Barer take part in a couple of back-to-back hands that played out like this.

  • The first hand saw Barer open up the pot to 300 from early position. A late position player made the call and the dealer flipped over a {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{j-Clubs} flop. Barer led for 325 here and his opponent liften his cards in the air and slightly motioned to fold. It certainly looked that way to Barer, as he also readied his cards for the muck. However, the player had other ideas, deciding to make the call at the last second, flicking out the call. On the {j-Hearts} turn, Barer again fired, this time 500. The player thought better of it on the turn, letting his cards go.
  • The very next hand, Barer opened the pot to 300 again. Only Alex Lynskey in the small blind would call and then both players would check the {4-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop. The dealer turned over a {q-Hearts} turn and Lynskey check-folded to a bet of 325 by Barer.

Despite winning these two small hands, Barer is currently sitting behind less than the starting stack.

Three Streets for Grigg

The following hand was played out during one of the last hands of the first level. With a raise to 325 in front of him, Tom Grigg made the call on the button to see a flop of {q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Spades}. Action checked to Grigg who bet 300. His opponent quickly called and the turn brought the {4-Clubs}. Again it was checked to Grigg in position who bet 725. Again the bet was quickly matched as the {10-Spades} completed the board.

For the third time, Grigg’s opponent tapped the table. Grigg took a few moments of thought before bombing for 2,050. His opponent instantly verbalized a call and was looking to open his cards, thinking he was in front, but Grigg tabled {Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for two pair to take it down.

Grigg has been up and down already this afternoon and currently sits just above start stack.

Lynskey Knocks One Away

Alex Lynskey has managed to pick up plenty of chips early here on Day 1b, courtesy of recently eliminating a player.

We arrived at the table on the turn of a {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} board, with around 3,000 already in the pot. It was on Lynskey's opponent to act and he opted to check. Lynskey bet 1,000 and after some hesitation, his opponent called, leaving himself with just a few thousand behind.

River: {k-Hearts}

Lynskey's opponent immediately shoved all in here and Lynksey made an extremely quick call, instantly flipping over {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds} as he did so. The at-risk player tabled his {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}, no match for Lynskey's full house as he made his way from the tournament area.

Spotlight on the Player of the Year

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Each year, points are awarded for the winners and in-the-money finshes in events across the Asia Pacific Poker Tour and the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour. Points are also awarded in special 'ANZ Qualifying' events in casinos around Australia.

Currently it is Anthony Aston who leads the player of the year race and he is in today's Day 1b field. Aston has had an impressive year, finishing in third place at the ANZPT Sydney event in March and then going on to finish in third place again at ANZPT Perth in May.

On Aston's tail is Didier Guerin and Mishel Anunu, but Aston won't have to worry about these players, with Guerin and Anunu both being eliminated during yesterday's play. The ANZ Player of the Year leader board can be found here.
