Big Penalty for Ozer

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Not for the first time today, Chris Ozer has got involved in an argument with the floor staff, but this time it’s ended rather painfully for the player from Melbourne.

We arrived on the river where Ozer had acted out of turn with a bet of 10,000, leaving himself just 30,000. This is where the SKYCITY Auckland poker room manager Toni Quedley stepped in.

Quedley had been observing the actions and table talk for quite a while and informed Ozer that he had knowingly acted out of turn and was about to receive a penalty.

David Lim was his opponent, who asked what his options were. He checked, Ozer’s bet stood, Lim moved all in and Ozer instantly folded.

Quedley then told Ozer he would receive a penalty of 12 hands – effectively two orbits – calculated by the number of players at the table multiplied by two. Ozer wasn’t happy and argued the point to any floor staff that would listen, but Quedley cited Ozer’s deliberate acting out of turn, combined with inappropriate table chat during the hand, and deemed that the ruling would stand.

Ozer’s stack of 30,000 is now dwindling away with the blinds and antes taking their toll as he stands on the rail watching on in disbelief.

Holloway Still Crushing, Ozer Struggling

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Chris Ozer is now of the shorter stacks in the room as he has just lost a hefty pot to the current chip leader Steven Holloway. We arrived at the action on the river of a {6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{a-Spades}{5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} board, with 59,000 in the pot and with Ozer having a bet of 40,000 in front of him.

Holloway was deep in the tank and Ozer was being extremely chatty as he told Holloway over and over again that he would show him one card if he folded, or even threatened to show him one with action pending.

Eventually Holloway called and Ozer tabled only a {q-Hearts}. He was asked to expose both cards and Ozer showed his {k-Diamonds}. Holloway then tabled {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and scooped up the pot.

Holloway is up to almost 500,000 in chips, while Ozer is struggling on 70,000.

Big Double for Cook

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We aren't exactly sure how it happened, but we did hear a big celebration coming from Table 9 as Jason Cook had doubled up through the big stack of Anesone Bragouits. Cook is now one of the chip leaders, while Bragouits is still going strong.

McGuire Latest Addition to the Rail

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

James McGuire has been eliminated as we are now down to just 19 players.

McGuire was all in preflop holding {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} against the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} of Stanislav Chataline and despite looking good to the turn of a {4-Clubs}{10-Spades}{5-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} board, the {k-Hearts} river gave the pot to Chataline and sent McGuire home with NZ$4,260.

Slade Gone as 20 Remain

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

The in-the-money eliminations have continued at a rapid pace this evening, with Slade Fisher the latest player to find the rail. Fisher was sent home in 21st place, collecting NZ$4,260.

Fisher’s final hand saw him all in preflop holding {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} against the {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} of Steven Holloway.
The {9-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} board were the final five cards that Fisher saw in the ANZPT Auckland Main Event.

Holloway is now up over 400,000.

Ruha Down in 22nd

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Sam Ruha has found the rail in 22nd place – making him the last player to receive a pure min-cash.

We arrived at Ruha’s final hand to find him all in preflop and out of his seat as Raybon Kan and Jason Cook had both called Ruha’s shove. Kan still had 15,500 behind, but he and Cook checked down a {7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts} board.

At showdown, Ruha tabled {q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}, but the pair of nines weren’t strong enough for the {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} of Kan. Cook mucked and with that Ruha was eliminated with NZ$3,834 for his time.

Humpl Home in 23rd

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

We have lost our second in-the-money player of the night.

This time it was Petr Humpl who made his way to the rail with some cash for his time and it was a brutal elimination considering he was all in preflop holding {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} against the {5-Spades}{5-Clubs} of Amant Nauhria. It was the flop that hurt Humpl as the dealer spread out {5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{10-Clubs} to give Nauhria a set.

The {8-Clubs} turn and {6-Clubs} river weren’t of help to Humpl and he was sent home in 23rd place.

Coppen the First Elimination

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Max Coppen is the first to visit the cashier following the burst of the bubble. Coppen was all in for his last 31,000 with {a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} but Amant Nauhria made the call with a very dominant {a-Spades}{k-Spades}.

The board would arrive {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{8-Clubs}{10-Spades} to see Nauhria make a flush which was way too good for Coppen, who was eliminated in 24th place. Nauhria has plenty of support on the rail, and also plenty of chips, as he now sits with around 410,000.

Triple Oger

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Nicolas Oger has just tripled up. He was all in preflop and received two callers in Jason Cook and Sam Ruha. Oger watched on as Cook and Ruha checked down a {9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{k-Spades} and was then relieved to find that his {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} was strong to win the pot. He’s now up to around 100,000.
