Lee Watkinson playing in Event #7
Lee Watkinson open-shoved pre-flop for 4,325 with {A-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and found a caller in Gary Benson with {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{2-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} on the board and everyone's favorite chimpanzee aficionado was eliminated.

Watkinson didn't leave Melbourne empty handed. He won Event #7 $3,250 PLO with Rebuys.

Ben Savage Likes Quads

On the last hand before the break, Ben Savage flopped quad Jacks on a board of {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{J-Spades}. He check-called a 2,000 bet from Jirair Ebeyan. When the {4-Diamonds} fell on the turn, both players checked. On the river, Savage fired out 7,000 and Ebeeyan called and tabled {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. Savage dragged the pot and increased his hand to over 34,000.

Mike Sexton Eliminated

Mike Sexton misses his monster draw...
Mike Sexton misses his monster draw...
On a board of {K-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, Mike Sexton bet 3,000. Roy Winston raised to 7,000. Sexton moved all in for 23,000. Winston called and barely had Sexton covered.

Sexton: {J-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Winston: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Winston was ahead with a set, but Sexton flopped an open-ended straight flush draw. The turn was the {10-Diamonds} and Sexton still had two outs for a straight flush. The river was the {4-Spades}. Roy Winston dragged the pot and Sexton headed to the rail.

Boxell Finds Rockets But No Action

Leo Boxell
Leo Boxell
When a player raised to 700 from the cutoff, Leo Boxell looked down at {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} and geared himself for a big pot. He bumped it up to 2,200 from the small blind and hoped for a bite. However his opponent thought for a moment before jumping off the hook by folding his hand. Boxell showed his aces and joked with his opponent "Don't come after my blind!" Boxell has recently been moved to a tough table featuring Mike Sexton and Roy Winston but is progressing well with about 25,000 chips.

Michael "Timex" McDonald Eliminated by Andy Black

Blacklisted
Blacklisted
Andy Black raised to 600 pre-flop, one opponent flat-called, and Mike "Timex" McDonald moved all in for 4,300. Black moved all in over the top, having both players covered, and his second opponent called all in for 7,400.

Black {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Timex {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}
2nd Opponent {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and Black eliminated both players, increasing his stack to 35,000.

Andy Black's Blues

Andy Black
Andy Black
With the board reading {5-Hearts}{J-Spades}{7-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} Andy Black casually tossed a 500 denomination chip into the pot. Jon Van Fleet thought for a brief moment before bumping it up to 1,500 to go. Black quickly called and they were dealt the {6-Spades} on the river. Black checked and Van Fleet fired 3,200 into the pot. Black instantly said "call" as Van Fleet flipped over {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. Black is disgusted as he throws away his cards and pays off his opponent.

Black doesn't appear to be enjoying himself at the table at the moment. He's already had a couple of loud discussions with floor staff and is struggling to get going here on Day 1a as he slips back to 22,000 chips.

Gobboboy Eliminated

Gobbobusto

Jimmy "gobboboy" Fricke had a tough table draw with Gary Benson, Allen Cunningham, Scott Clements, Matt Sexton, Raymond Rahme, and Lee Watkinson. His arduous day was made even more difficult when he was crippled a few hands earlier when he ran into Matt Sexton's pocket Aces. Unfortunately, Gobboboy ran into Aces again which sealed his fate.

Gobboboy moved all in for his last 1,975. Raymond Rahme found {A-Clubs}{A-Spades} and called. Gobboboy was behind with {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. The board ran out {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and Gobboboy was eliminated.

Gobboboy was the runner-up at last year's Aussie Millions and managed to take down Event #3 Mixed Stud lst week. Although his run in Australia has come to a close, expect Gobboboy to be a force at this year's World Series of Poker. The young gun turns 21 in a few months and has his sights set on a bracelet.
