With 5,500 in the pot, both Matt Brady and Allen Bari checked the board to see the fall on the river. Brady tossed out one T5,000 chip and Bari quickly folded.
With the board reading , Dwyte Pilgrim check-raised Shannon Shorr's bet of 1,200 to 3,600. Shorr made the call and the river completed the board with the . Pilgrim fired 8,000 and Shorr made the call. Pilgrim mucked his hand without showing and Shorr didn't have to show, per rules of the Epic Poker League.
George Long, who was one of our nine-qualifiers that received temporary membership cards just for this event, is the Epic Poker League's very first casualty. Although the action is unknown, Long's journey was even more tall than others. For $180, he won his way into the Pro-Am. From there he gained entrance into the Main Event with an 8th place finish and was able to test his skills with the best in the world.
On the bright side, Long's name will forever be in the history books as the Epic Poker League's very first casualty.
Picking up the action on the flop, Chris Moorman had bet an unknown amount and Brian Rast raised to 13,200. Moorman tanked for a bit and then reraised to either 18,200 or 19,200. He verbally announced the bet tossed out 20,200, but the amount was unheard by our staff standing a few feet behind the table. Rast then tanked for a bit before coming back with a reraise to 25,200. Moorman folded rather quickly and Rast showed the for top pair, top kicker.
In a pot that had already reached about 16,000, Jimmy Fricke bet 12,500 from the small blind position on a board. Ted Lawson, Fricke's lone opponent, did not back down, however. He min-raised to 25,000 which was enough to make Fricke fold.
Lawson now has 59,000 while Fricke falls to 38,000.
Phil Laak found himself in a three-way pot on an flop. The preflop raiser bet 1,200 which allowed Laak to make it 4,500. The third player folded and Laak's opponent called.
The turn was the and the opponent checked to Laak this time. Laak fired 8,800 and the bet was called. The river fell the which was checked again by the player first to act. With just 26,500 remaining, Laak bet 20,500 and finally his opponent let go of his hand.
Eric Froehlich opened the pot with a raise to 600 from under the gun. Next to act, Randal Flowers called before Victor Ramdin re-raised to 2,300. It folded back around to Froehlich who made the call while Flowers got out of the way.
The flop was and Froehlich check-called a 3,200-chip bet from Ramdin. The turn was the and Froehlich let Ramdin bet again, this time for 7,000. After some thought, Froehlich decided to raise to 17,500. Ramdin went deep into the tank and fidgeted in his seat for about five minutes before finally folded.
When Froehlich threw in his hand to scoop the pot, Gavin Smith got a look at at least one of the cards which brought a him to chuckle and say something that couldn't be heard to the two players.
