Pescatori Drops Down

Arrrr, the Italian pirate has taken a bit of a hit from a scurvy dog, or a gentleman in seat 10 who told me his name but I'm afraid it was unpronounceable in English, so Scurvy Dog he remains.

Pescatori bet 500 from the button on a {Q-Spades} {7-Spades} {8-Spades} {5-Spades} board, and then called a minimum raise from Scurvy Dog, although the pirate raised an eyebrow as he did so. Scurvy Dog bet 1,000 on the {J-Hearts} river and Pescatori called -- but mucked when he was shown {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}.

Belatedly Flying the Flag For England

Legendary British online player Chris Moorman has finally taken his seat. We all thought he'd decided that he was either good enough to give the first few levels a miss or rich enough to just write off his buy-in and take a holiday instead, but it turns out that despite buying in in advance, when he arrived he was told that they already had the maximum number of players and he'd have to wait and come in as an alternate. Thankfully the rate of bust-outs has been such that he got to play in the end, and is currently sitting on 12,400.

Lellouche Up to 20K

Anthony Lellouche has passed the 20,000 chip mark. He's cruising in the early levels. Elky chipped up a bit and now has 7,000. Alexia Portal is sitting on 9,000.

Leave the Bracelets At Home

Of course, there are a number of bracelet winners in the field today, of whom the proudest is very definitely Alan Smurfit -- his little bit of poker history is reverentially and very unsubtly laid out in front of his chips on the felt.

Compare this to the total absence of any bracelets about the person of scruffy Belgian Davidi Kitai, who won his just this summer. Another recent WSOP champ, Dario Minieri, is not wearing his bracelet either, but is sporting enough bling about his his otherwise largely naked torso to thoroughly make up for it (not to worry, ladies -- photo on its way soon). Similarly no bracelet is obvious on the wrists of relative veteran Mr Ivo Donev -- there is just a hint of gold peeking out from under a leather sleeve, but we can't prove anything...

A Tale of Two Frenchman

I wandered by Elky's table. He's down to a bit over 5,000. He lost about half of his stack during the first level of play. Fellow Frenchman Anthony Lellouche is doing a bit better on the other side of the room. Lellouche is up to 15,500. Lellouche made the final table of the PokerStars.com EPT London and he's trying to make consecutive final tables.

Meet the Locals, Vol. 2

Richard Toth
Richard Toth
Once again the Hungarian staff at Poker News pointed out a couple of local players that we should be keeping an eye on. There's Denes Kalo, who has almost $2.5 million in career earnings which ranks him as the number one money winner in all of Hungary. He was the runner-up at the PokerStars.com EPT Grand Finale in May. Although Kalo lost heads up to Glen Chorny, he still left Monte Carlo €1,179,000 richer. Kalo also has another second place finish on the EPT when he was the runner up at the EPT Baden (that was eventually won by Julian Thew).

Also playing today is Richard Toth. Among his peers, Toth is considered the best tournament player in Hungary. He's third on the all time Hungarian money list and made a final table at the WSOP in 2006 when he finished in second place in a $1,500 NL event. He cashed three times at the WSOP this summer and has seven cashes overall at the WSOP. Toth also made one final table on the EPT when he finished third ar the Scandinavian Open in 2007.

Flying the Flag For England

As well as Pokerstars Pro Vicky Coren, EPT Baden winner Julian Thew and bracelet winner Alan Smurfit, a number of well-known British players have turned up today to represent the homeland: Priyan De Mel, Praz Bansi and Ben Grundy are all among today's starters.
