It's All About the Money

Winning... for now.
Winning... for now.
Those of you who have been following our updates like a religious text all week, which we are sure is all of you out there, will remember that Messrs. Dario Minieri and Peter Eastgate had themselves rather a substantial last-longer going.

Both players are still in, but there seem to be some complicated negotiations going on. We didn't quite catch the details, but it seems as though Minieri is now attempting to buy out, or at least tweak the terms a little somehow. Eastgate does not seem to be having any of it.

Current standings:

Minieri 600,000, Eastgate 800,000

Pulling the Plug on Pagano

Luca Pagano opened with a raise, and Day 1a chip leader Robert Cezarescu three-bet it right back to him. Pagano had been chipped down into the trouble zone, and he called off the rest of his now-short stack, turning over a meager {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs}. The news was not good as Cezarescu tabled {J-Spades} {J-Hearts}.

The flop brought a bit of hope for the EPT's all-time leading casher as it came {7-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}. That nine was the only help he'd find, though, as the turn and river {8-Hearts} and {3-Diamonds} did nothing to get him over the hump. That's Pagano's 14th EPT cash, breaking his own record yet again. Still, the impeccably-dressed Italian couldn't help but show a bit of disappointment as he meandered toward the door.

Preflop Warfare

"Time" we heard the dealer in the far corner call. Approaching the table, we could see a massive preflop confrontation brewing. There were nearly 200,000 chips in the pot already, and Dario Minieri had reraising chips out in front of his betting line.

Action was on Pasi Heinanen, and his long decision was the reason for the clock call. It only took a few more seconds for Heinanen to fold his cards, and Minieri dragged a big pot without even seeing a flop.

"I can't be bluffing there," said the gregarious Italian as he stacked the chips. "Before I could bluff, but I can't bluff right here. I must have pocket deuces at least!"

The table chuckled, but it's Minieri who's laughing the hardest as he's worked his stack back up to about 420,000.

Lemore Chips for Lemaire

Not long ago, Hugo Lemaire was put to a decision for his tournament life on the river in a huge pot. He made the right call and gained a decent stack. Since then, Lemaire has been doing work.

Alain Taieb opened to 33,000. Lemaire popped it to 80,000, making good use of the fancy new 20k chips introduced during the break. Taieb took his time making the call, leaving himself around 290,000.

Flop: {Q-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {2-Diamonds}

Taieb stacks his chips neatly and slides them forward, just up to but not quite over the line. He kept them there for a minute, cupping them in his hands like he was keeping them warm. But he tapped the table after quite a show. Action now on him, Lemaire asked for a count of Taieb's stack, got the answer, and swiftly checked.

Turn: {7-Spades}

Taieb pulled the exact same act, sliding his chips forward, tanking, and checking. Another check behind from Lemaire.

River: {6-Diamonds}

No all in fake out this time. Taieb threw 50,000 into the middle, and Lemaire called without any hesitation. Taieb showed {A-Spades} {6-Spades} for a rivered pair, but Lemaire's {Q-Hearts} {10-Hearts} had been good since the flop. Lemaire was up to 720,000 after the hand, while Taeib was down to 240,000.

Back We Go

What could possibly be nicer right now than playing another 75 minutes of poker?

Nothing!

It's official - we are going to keep going tonight until either we are left with 24 players or level 22 is done and dusted, whichever comes first. Looks like a long night either way.

By the by, this level sees the introduction of the legendary 20,000 chip. Not a 25,000 chip, as is customary in most casinos, but a 20,000 chip. We understand that to add to the confusion, they are almost the same colour as the 500-denom chips. Whatever happens, we are looking forward to some hilarious consequences...

High Roll Up, Roll Up!

Are you bored? Do you have €20,000 to wang on a poker tournament?

Then join our high rollers event!

17 players have seated themselves in a little area of the card room that someone has rather pointlessly penned in with some very low rails, probably mostly for the look of the thing. Among them are such luminaries as Juha Helppi, Rui Cao, Vicky Coren, Pierre Neuville, Jan Skampa, Antony Lellouche and Jonathan Aguiar. That is one tough two-table sit n go.
