The Other Thorson

Sandra Naujoks raised to 2,225 and got herself two callers in the respective shapes of Mark Petersen to her immediate left and Jens Thorson in the cutoff.

All three players checked the {4-Clubs} {A-Spades} {Q-Hearts} flop and they moved on to the {10-Diamonds} turn. Naujoks bet out 4,600 and Petersen called. Thorson, however, made it 11,200, prompting relatively swift folds from both his opponents.

"How to Win a Coin Flip," by Bertrand Grospellier

The Elk
The Elk
Under the gun, Costantino Russo open-raised to 1,500. Action passed all the way around to the big blind where ElkY stuck in a reraise to 4,400. Russo didn't waste much time moving all in for about 24,000, and ElkY quickly made the call with his larger stack to put his man at risk.

Showdown
Russo: {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades}
Grospellier: {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}

"Come on, you can't win four flips in a row!" prodded Russo.

Wanna bet?

The {K-Clubs} dropped right on the flop, and the board of {K-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {A-Spades} {8-Diamonds} sent Russo out the door. ElkY's two pair earns him the knockout pot and a chip boost up over the century mark. It looks like he's got about 105,000 as he stacks that pot.

Toth Green with Envy

Poor Richard Toth. As you may recall, the Hungarian Team PokerStars Pro was looking good for a final table appearance at EPT Snowfest before his {A-?} {Q-?} was outdrawn by Huub Verdonschot's {Q-?} {J-?} when the latter flopped a straight, the chips all having gone in pre, and Toth had to be content with 17th place.

So bearing that in mind, please spare a thought for Toth when we tell you that just now the woefully short Daniel van Kalkeren, by the by a buddy of the aforementioned Huub Verdonschot, got his last in with {K-Diamonds} {8-Spades} and Toth called with a dominating {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}.

Board: {3-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}

Van Kalkeren, resplendent in the same green team hoodie that Verdonschot was wearing last time, doubled to 14,000. "Nice hand," sighed Toth as he settled down to contemplate his own remaining 14,000 stack, and how green was really not his colour.

Bus Update

The players on the bus go up and down. Up and down. Up and down.

While the O'Brien half of the room has gone to dinner, we've checked on his stack to see him sitting right around 35,000, down a bit from his high point today.

Jason Mercier still looks absolutely wrecked, but he's picked up an early double up to improve his stack back to respectability.

It looks like the dinner break has done The Bear some good. Greenstein returned from the buffet with a little extra lift in his step, and he's headed back to his stack that appears to have slipped back to about 24,000.

We're still looking for Allen Bari; we're assured he's in this room somewhere.

We're also missing Peter Eastgate, but we know where he was sitting. Eastgate's chair is occupied by another gent, though, and he's presumed eliminated unless something screwy has happened.

Also no word on the massage therapist that was on the bus as well. We're still searching high and low.

Vita Loses Tournament Life

Matthias de Meulder raised in early position only for Stefania Vita to reraise from the small blind. De Meulder flat-called and they saw a flop.

Flop: {4-Spades} {2-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}

Vita bet out 5,700, and once again de Meulder called. Interesting.

Turn: {7-Spades}

Vita shoved, and de Meulder called. On their backs.

Vita: a speculative {A-Clubs} {K-Spades}
De Meulder: a concrete {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts}

River: {10-Hearts}

Vita looked sick as she headed for the rail, while de Meulder shrugged in an I'm-sorry-you-busted-but-I-was-winning-all-along sort of way. He is up to 90,000.

Kelly Makes Correct Fold

Big, big fold from JP Kelly. He raised {9-?} {8-?} preflop and got called.

The flop came a lovely {Q-?} {J-?} {10-?} and his opponent led out for 3,000. Kelly raised to 9,400 before his opponent jammed for 40,000. Kelly tanked and eventually folded his straight after getting his opponent to show... His opponent flipped {A-?} {K-?} for the flopped nuts...

Double Trouble

Nick Binger - Out
Nick Binger - Out
We just caught the tail end of a huge double knockout on Table 44. Max Pescatori, Nick Binger, and Roberto Canali got tangled up in a preflop raising war that left the former two all in and at risk against Canali's covering stack.

The big stack was first to show, turning up two aces. Binger tabled ace-king, and Pescatori tabled only an eight. Followed by a queen. His queen-eight was not in particularly good shape.

The board ran down {4-?} {6-?} {7-?} {3-?} {7-?}, and that holds Canali's aces. He's knocked off the proverbial two birds with his overpair, and that moves him up to about 80,000.
