Risky Business

Nick Abou Risk is a double UKIPT champion and is now in the hunt a win in its bigger brother, the EPT. Just moments before catching Risk in a hand, the blogging team were talking about how Risk employs a high-risk/high reward strategy that has obviously done a lot of the latter.

We headed past Risk's table to see Elie El Feghali open to 425 in late position and that bet was raised to 1,025 by Mikhail Surin in the hijack. Next to act was Risk and the Canadian put in a four-bet to 2,525. This forced El Feghali to fold rather quickly, but Surin gave his actions much mroe thought. Eventually, he decided he was likely behind and released his hand.

Wahlbeck Pays Off Busquet

Olivier Busquest has to content with having Team PokerStars Pro Ville Wahlbeck to his immeidate left, but he seems to be coping quite well at the moment as he just won a big pot from him.

We joined their table as Busquet shoved for 7,000 on a {q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades} board, sending a puzzled Wahlbeck into the tank. Wahlbeck was studying the board with his head cocked to one side and he really looked pained in his decision making. Whatever thought processes he had, they pointed him towards calling and that is what he did.

Busquet: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}
Wahlbeck: muck

Busquet doubled to around 18,000 and Wahlbeck dropped to a similar amount.

"I Don't Have Too Many Good Folds Left In Me"

Chris Moorman, who finished as runner-up of the EPT Berlin €10,000 No Limit Hold'em - 8 Max Re-Entry event back in April for €145,200, is in action today, but things haven't been going well for the Brit.

In a recent hand, there was 2,500 in the pot and a board reading {8-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Spades} when Moorman bet 2,000 into Switzerland's Friedrich Paul Raz, who clicked it back with a min-raise. Moorman sat deep in thought for a solid minute, and then silently conceded the hand.

Raz responded by rapping the table and tabling {A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for rivered trips. Moorman's eyebrows shot up in mock surprise before. "Nice bet, no worries," Moorman said and shaking his head in the affirmative when asked if he had folded {A-}{J-}. "I don't have too many good folds left in me."

A Look Back at the EPT Prague Season 7

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Roberto Romanello won the EPT7 Prague for €640,000.
Roberto Romanello won the EPT7 Prague for €640,000.

Two years ago the UK's Roberto Romanello came to the Czech Republic and defeated a field of 563 players to walk away with the EPT Prague title and €640,000 first-place prize.

Romanello is in today's field and looking for his second title in three years, and in honor of the past champion, we thought we'd take a look back at his win by reproducing the recap from his victory (check out PokerNews' EPT7 Prague Live Blog for the full story):

Roberto Romanello is the PokerStars.com EPT Prague Main Event Champion and a worthy one at that. Since Day 1b Romanello has been amongst the chipleaders and after defeating Emilliano Bono heads-up he now has the trophy, the title and €640,000 in his back pocket!

He came into the final table fifth from eight in chips but he played perfectly all the way through and thoroughly deserved to win each and every single one of the 16,890,000 chips in play.

Romanello has entertained his opponents and the media alike with his witty banter, his happy go lucky attitude and the fact that he is one of poker's true gentleman. Ask anybody in this industry to speak a bad word of him and you will not find a single soul who will do so.

After being overcome with emotion and having to leave the tournament area, Romanello composed himself and returned to rapturous applause from the spectators, staff, media and railbirds who had all gathered round to welcome the new champion.

After accepting the winner's trophy, Romanello asked if he could say a few words. After asking for a round of applause for the tournament dealers, who have been superb once again, Romanello had this to say to his supporters.

"The support was superb all week. I feel like everyone wanted me to win and it feels so good to actually do it."

This result is Romanello's biggest by a long shot, more than four times his previous largest cash, which stood at $200,000. However, you get the feeling from his reaction that the money, although extremely welcome, means less than being able to call himself EPT Prague Champion.

From everyone here at PokerNews.com, congratulations to Roberto Romanello, the 2010 PokerStars.com EPT Prague Main Event Champion!

Alvarado's Aces

Just before break, Istvan Birizdo opened to 400 in early position. JC Alvarado three-bet to 1,200 on his direct left, and the action folded back to Birizdo, who four-bet to 2,750. Alvarado called.

The flop fell {7-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, Birizdo led out for 1,750, and Alvarado stared down Birizdo before calling.

The turn was the {8-Hearts}, Birizdo led again - this time for 3,800 - and Alvarado studied him intently before again calling.

The {a-Hearts} completed the board, and for the first time, Birizdo checked. Alvarado stared at Birizdo, then reached for chips and tossed out 5,050. Birizdo called.

Alvarado turned over {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for a pair of aces, and Birizdo held onto his hand for ten seconds or so, then mucked.
